This is great news for everyone "peace for our time"! May it last forever.

China believes President-elect Joe Biden represents a "new window of hope" for the country's relationship with the United States, according to state media.

Biden's critics have expressed concern that he will take a friendlier stance toward China than President Trump as tensions between the two rivals have risen after a trade battle and the spread of COVID-19.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told state media outlet CGTN last week that "a new window of hope is opening" with the incoming administration.

The Biden administration will "return to a sensible approach, resume dialogue with China, restore normalcy to the bilateral relations and restart cooperation," Wang said.

He added that the U.S. and China "have run into unprecedented difficulties" in the past few years, and some American politicians "see China" as the United States' "so-called biggest threat," leading them to base China policy on "serious misconceptions."

"Such a policy will find no support and is doomed to fail," Wang said.

U.S.-China tensions have escalated under the Trump administration due to a yearslong trade war between the two countries amid U.S. accusations of intellectual property theft, cyberattacks, fentanyl exports to the U.S. and other crimes; criticism related to the coronavirus pandemic; and China's human rights record with regard to Muslim minority populations in its northeast region and Hong Kong.

Trump has implemented strict sanctions on China since taking office and blacklisted dozens of Chinese companies accused of facilitating human rights abuses against the country's Uighur population.

Chinese President Xi Jinping in November congratulated Biden on winning the 2020 election, according to state media outlet Xinhua.

"Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday sent a message to Joe Biden to congratulate him on election as U.S. president," Xinhua reported without adding further detail.

Biden is expected to review the Trump administration's China tariffs once the president-elect takes office, according to The Wall Street Journal, though he has said he would not immediately remove tariffs.

Let's hope that President Biden takes advantage of this friendly attitude on the part of China to respectfully request that China stop threatening Taiwan. And that it honor its treaty with Hong Kong.

Until the Reds took over China, the United States and China were best buddies. It is so sad to see how Americans' perception of China has changed since the detestable Reds took over.

I want Japan to make China beg for a return to 1942.

Bushido is alive and well. America needs to get off Japan's throat.
Japan is upgrading its military and could go nuclear if biden proves to be an unreliable ally
They will never go nuclear. Way too much public opposition, or at least there was in the early 90s when I lived there.

I can tell you right now, if WE would get off Japan's dick, they would be a FANTASTIC military ally. If I am going to war, I want Japan with me. Those people are fanatics, in a good way.

Fat chance

Taiwan will be lucky if it gets delivery of the military weapons trump sold them

China's new hope for the US, means more control over so-called Democrat puppets who are now embracing Marxism, spitting on the graves of the 81,000 military who died fighting Socialism and on the 7.3 million people that came here, fleeing Socialism. The new party that will be taking power later this month, will be the tyrannical party, we were warned about.

I think it is probably coming to the point where they simply won't listen to the U.S or others and will do what is best for their national security.

Really in a world where some nations have skirted laws and rights of citizens (including, and in my case, especially Canada) why would Japan play by the rules that others are not?

They know what is going on in Taiwan, they have intelligence agencies who know which politicians and governments are siding with who. They aren't going to pretend it's 1981 and Reagan is at the helm. They aren't going to pretend they didn't just watch China walk into Hong Kong and laugh at the weak Brits and their partners.

This is all serious business. Sadly, I can't even say with any first hand knowledge that Chinas human rights are any worse than Canadas. THAT is scary, and also a slight wakeup call for all allied nations. Just what does the term "civil liberties", "human rights" and "Rule of Law" mean anymore?

Yet, some blamed Trump for the Wild West, when it's been happening with enemy states (and so-called "allies) for decades.

If they feel threatened they could go nuclear

already Japan Self Defense Forces are being transformed into a real army capable of more than just defense
Way too late for that. We should've let them loose back in the 70s.

We are the reason China is in power. We let Slope-a-stan have exclusive dominance of the far east for far too long. Now the dinks are getting cocky.

Buy Japanese. Support Japan. They will kick the living shit out of everybody 2500 miles from the international date line.

The OP quotes the words "peace for our time."

Those, of course, were the words from England's prime minister Chamberlain, after he had returned from Germany where Herr Hitler had agreed to stop taking other countries once he could have part of Czechoslovakia.

Mr. Chamberlain is excoriated for so-called "appeasement." But he wanted to avoid the horrors of another European war.

Hopefully, China is serious about avoiding any action that could lead to warfare & the needless death of many young men, not to mention civilian casualties.
