Christian communism is a form of religious communism based on Christianity. It is a theological and political theory based upon the view that the teachings of Jesus Christ compel Christians to support communism as the ideal social system. Evidence from the Bible suggests that the first Christians, including the Apostles, established their own small communist society in the years following Jesus' death and resurrection. As such, many advocates of Christian communism argue that is was taught by Jesus Himself and practiced by the Apostles themselves. There are many biblical scriptures that further support the validity of Christian communism as the ideal social system.
In the Bible, in the book of Matthew 25 :31-46, Jesus identifies Himself with the hungry, poor and sick, and states that evil or good done upon the least of God's brethren will be counted as good or evil done upon God Himself. It is argued that Jesus is saying not only that individuals would be judged by their treatment of the needy but also that nations would be judged according to the characteristics of their societies. Other scriptures, for example, Leviticus 25:35-38 further warn those who would ignore the plight of the poor.
Acts 2: 42-47 instructs that meeting the basic needs of everyone is the commandment of Jesus. A true Christian heeds the Word of God--how much more clear can these Scriptures be? We are to meet the needs of ALL the impoverished, the sick and homeless--not spend our national wealth on military weaponry, war and destruction. Unless, we heed God's Word, we stand in His judgment. Christan communism is God's preferred socio-economic system--until Jesus comes back to establish HIS Kingdom on Earth.
Note: The heading for this post refers to the most recent example of Christian Communism to take hold, albeit with great opposition,by capitalist powers. Christian communism, also called Liberation Theology was a movement began in the '70's and continues in parts of Latin America, but with much opposition by capitalist entities.
