Cognitive Dissonance and the Right Wing Echo Chamber

There's a nice German word which neatly sums up the GOP since Obama was first elected...schadenfreude. It means to take pleasure from the trouble of others.

Isn't that exactly what they do? They take real pleasure in causing the President trouble. They take real pleasure in inventing conspiracy theories they can link him to. They take real pleasure in reviling poor people, welfare recipients, illegal immigrants, liberals, progressives, marxists, Democrats, blacks, women, even children. They take real pleasure in torpedoing the future of America by clinging bitterly to an unyielding, rigid, mean-spirited, bigoted ideology.

Schadenfreude--The motto of the 21st century Republican.

There's an American expression that fits your post rather nicely, Oldguy...it's "horseshit".

This President hasn't had a clue what he's doing since his bony ass hit that chair in the Oval Office but it's always the Republican's fault. He can't pass a budget? It's the Republican's fault! Unemployment is at the same high level as when he took office and now projected to go higher? It's the Republican's fault! The price of gas headed back towards $4 a gallon once again? It's those darned Republicans! His Middle East policy in tatters and an American Ambassador killed? Republicans! Iran building a nuke and laughing at our feeble attempts to stop them? Republicans! A health care "fix" that's going to raise costs and lower the quality of services while it bankrupts the country? Republicans!

Tell me why it was we ever elected this guy in the first place...let alone REELECTED him? He's totally unprepared for the task at hand...always has been...and judging from what I'm seeing now...always will be.

Those who rob Peter to pay Paul, can always count on Paul's vote.
That's how obama was reelected. He promised to rob Peter even more, and secure forever the right not to work but live lives of comfort.

No he didn't. The fact that you constantly lie is why you have zero cred.

The liberal welfare leeches live better than many hard working Americans thanks to Obama's socialism.

hate the black man even though its your own ideas that have been prove to be failures

You can always tell when a progressive has no viable reply because they immediately play the race card. Barack Obama's pigmentation has zero to do with my evaluation of his competence. I don't hate him because he's black...I don't hate him period. I think he's remarkably uneducated when it comes to economic issues.

Stop refusing to assimilate FACTS into your world veiw republicans

What "facts" would you like to discuss, TM?

The "fact" that unemployment is at the same high level, four years after Barack Obama was elected pledging to fix that and the problem is so bad that this Administration had to come up with a new economic statistic "jobs created or saved" to hide just how bad it is?

The "fact" that the cost of a gallon of gas is double what it was when Barack Obama was elected?

The "fact" that for the first time in 30 years we had a US Ambassador killed and rather than take responsiblity for the shoddy security that led to that death, this Administration misled the US people by blaming it on a You Tube video?

The "fact" that this President promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term but actually ran trillion dollar deficits each and every year that he's been in office with no end in sight?

The "fact" that this Administration deliberately sold guns to narco-gangs that were then used to kill hundreds of innocent Mexican citizens as well as a US Border Patrol agent?

The "fact" that ObamaCare does little to lower healthcare costs while adding another unfunded entitlement program to those that we already can't pay for?

Ever since Obamacare was ruled constitutional, the right wing has been all over the place with it's message(s). Used to the the right wing dictated what would lead during any news cycle. Now what they lead with is a whine of confusion.

We now have the the sequester battle, and it's all just one big Ball of Confusion, but remember, not to take things out of context. FOX News was stunned over the 2012 election and they simply imbecilic on the SCOTUS ruling on Obamacare. In 2010 after the Tea Party shot it's load, the GOP took the kooks in with open arms only to find out it's now the tail waging the dog. They GOP has been in disarray since GW Bush, and their last hurrah was 2010.

What the GOP needs now is a new message that resonates with the electorate outside of the whacko base, and real leaders who see a big tent and not a meeting of a clan. Instead what they are left with is alarmist hysteria and demagogues.

What will happen after the sequester goes into effect and the right wing base gets angrier and screeches even louder as what they say is no big deal turns out to be a big deal for 1014? I predict the GOP will suffer only slightly but will become more fragmented. Since GW Bush the GOP has had a difficult time connecting with the people and reality.

2014 can't come soon enough. Cognitive dissonance in a party message has been hilariously entertaining for the past 4 years,

The conservative agenda that puts God and family values above the rights of criminals and lazy welfare leeches are not principles that will be abandoned. Conservatives are true patriots and always will be. Only liberals sell out to the highest bidder.

Your a partisan clown with not one single FACT to offer any debate.

Why should anyone listen to you

Because he's telling the truth?

That might be it.

What's my solution to economic issues? A little fiscal "sanity" to start with. We know that we have two main problems...a crushing debt because we're spending way too much on government and a soft economy with millions of Americans unemployed for record lengths of time.

Barack Obama just raised taxes while demanding even more taxes all the while calling for more government spending. It's an idiotic response and the exact opposite of what he should be doing if he really wants to fix things.

So your solution is sanity (and, of course, blaming Obama)? How does one comport sanity and policy?

The Republican side sees Austerity as the solution, cutting back on 'entitlements' such as social security and Medicare (by the way, did you read the latest issue of Time Magazine?); cutting government which means cutting jobs and adding to unemployment; cutting regulations which means more fraud; and cutting taxes which will continue the trend of making the rich richer, the middle class falling further behind, the poor left without a safety net (and not all people in poverty are bums as some want us to believe) and an ever increasing debt.

We are a consumer driven economy, cutting jobs, keeping wages low will create a death spiral.

Is that "sanity"? Do you believe cutting taxes to those very well off will create opportunities for the the rest of Americans? If so the Bush Tax cuts should have paid off. They didn't, though some on your side of the aisle are now rewriting the history of the first decade of the 21st Century to put the 2007-2009 great recession a product of a Democratic Congress and Obama's election as POTUS.

The worst recovery from a recession since The Great Depression is what Barack Obama will have as his legacy, Wry. His lack of understanding of economics in general and the Private Sector in particular have led to four years of lackluster recovery with us teetering on the verge of yet another recession.

I would tend to think that the Congress will remain Republican. I don't see a Pelosi Congress in 2014.

So, more of the same. It is the American way. :D

I hope the Tea Party types finally do a power grab and get kicked in the face by sane conservatives

Your conclusion may be correct, but as Dante pointed out the GOP message is both alarmist (hate and fear) and demagoguery. Both wear thin in the face of reality and even those districts cut out to be safe for Republicans in 2000 may very well come into play in 2014. Households split in 2012, more women voted for The President and that trend will remain unabated as long as the GOP continues to support guns and work to deny a women's right to choose. I suspect many Hispanics see through the efforts by the GOP to once again pretend their party is a big tent. A few tokens does not make a sea change.

Such movements often take generational change. The Democrats were the party of the KKK and they are now the party of the disenfranchised. :)

Generational changes are massive things and the Democrats are riding the ebbing flow of the sixties/seventies generational wave. The Republicans are riding the forties/fifties wave and have some serious soul searching to do with regards to modernization of their party platform but they're having a hard enough time dealing with the Norquist pledge which does not bode well for 2016 imo.

The Democrats were never the party of the KKK. White Conservative Christians in the Democratic party are who you speak of and since they held seats longer than most (inbred political families) they held seats longer and rose to powerful Chairmanship/Leadership roles.

They supported the Democratic party.

“Why would Democrats skip over their own history from 1848 to 1900?” Barton asked. “Perhaps because it’s not the kind of civil rights history they want to talk about – perhaps because it is not the kind of civil rights history they want to have on their website.”

KKK's 1st targets were Republicans

obamacare was declared Constitutional as a tax. As Justice Roberts said, if we don't like the tax, we can change the legislature.

yes. and Chief Justice Margaret Marshall said the same thing in her ruling on same-sex marriages in Massachusetts.

and that ruling brought about a failed effort on the behalf of those who would deny rights to others.

Civil Rights was a term that was later championed by the Democratic party. Party's change with membership. The Slave Holding Crackers, their dumb-as-dirt fellow Southerners who didn't hold slaves, but held a hatred for them all stayed in the party of Presidents Madison/Jefferson/Jackson. The Democratic party of that time was conservative.

Racism and Jim Crow were conservative vales and it were Liberals in both major parties who championed civil rights. Not Democrats versus Republicans, but Conservatives versus Liberals

but we digress

btw, wnd is the website?
