In WWII, it is estimated that Russia lost 10 million soldiers along with 10 million civilians. Contrast this with Nazi Germany who lost 3.5 million soldiers and 700,000 civilians; then contrast that with the U.S. who lost 400,000 soldiers and no civilians. This alone should give pause for insight into the Russian psyche and Putins interest in securing Russias western border flank and only warm water port.

Yet, the OP considers Putin psychotic. The OPs' geo-political acumen is the equivilent of a slug.

Fought to hell and back. No one has ever won against the slavs.
