Constitutional Purpose

Is to protect the minority of the opulent against the majority. Any thoughts?

Hmmmm...

Are you Tea Party or Occupy Wall Street?

You are kidding right!? I'm apolitical. Regardless of party affiliation, government is a bowl of warm shit. If you MUST label/categorize... At worst, I'm off the scale far left, at best I'm an Anarchist. But, these are just labels, therefore meaningless, mere symbols for the symbol minded.

Anonymouse, Cynic-at-Large.

The constitution was created to replace the document that preceded it because the country could not respond to emergencies quickly. It was supposed to be a document that gave certain powers, and only those powers to a central government. It had each of the three branches holding a limited portion of those powers so that no one branch could circumvent the powers of the states and the people.

The bill of rights was added to list the most important rights that the people felt were in most need of protection and as a decree that the government was to defend these rights for the people. The last amendment of the bill of rights was the final word on the federal governments powers.
It Reads:
10th Amendment
The powers not delegated to the United States by the
Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved
to the States respectively, or to the people.
