I witnessed it in Washington and Minnesota twice. Two close elections and each one had 3 recounts. The first 2 the Republicans still won, but the third recount suddenly went Democrat in both cases.

Just as the electoral college was designed to do, it keeps highly populated Democrat Blue states like New York, California, Massachusetts, and others from dominating the vote. I'm all for keeping the electoral college....

Texas has 48.85 times more people than Wyoming, but only 12.66 times as many EC votes.

Irrelevant statistic. Texas has a lot more influence on the election, 4 times more, than Wyoming. Thus making each Texas vote essentially equal to each Wyoming vote.

Second is that the need for the electoral college is still as valid as ever, since it would be wrong for the more populated states like CA, FL, and NY, to make other states insignificant. Those other less populated states have equally valid needs and concerns, regardless of population.

Those states make the other states almost insignificant anyway. It would be better if each state divided up its EC votes proportionally to the votes received by each party. A couple of the smaller states do this already.

It is not a question of votes being worth more or less in the electoral college, but that individuals are mob rule and not a good idea.

You are mistaken. Several new states were added post bellum, and to this day have only one State Representative. They would have not joined the union to be that big solid piece of real estate from Coast to coast if they thought they couldn't make a difference to prevent their state from being taxed with no representation.

When you boil this issue down, those of you who are calling this system antiquidated, it's all about taxation without representation, and that is the very reprehensible situation the colonists were in with King George of Britain. He refused them passage to have their issues heard in his court, and he badmouthed the wrong Americans who spent their money going to England to seek an audience about some pretty hard times that were making higher taxes unbearable. For his hearing problem, King George earned himself war with the states, and he didn't win it which made his own Brits mad about his state negligence to be a benign leader to the Americans.

If you deny small states their rights and dignity to feel they are part of this country, you will likely get what stupid leaders get when they become hard of hearing to taxpayers.​

A big part of the reason voters were not trusted to make good decisions about electing the president may have had to do with the difficulty in communicating with the average voter. That limitation no longer exists.

But the Electoral Anarchonism is why we are stuck with just these two parties. Third parties never get any traction and die quickly.
