The place that has inspired millenia of bloodshed and religious madness? I WISH it was as irrelevant as Poland.

Actually, it was irrelevant for over a century. A tiny population of Arabs and Jews. Nearly no productive farming land. Hardly any commercial wealth. No oil, no mineral wealth of any kind, not strategically important to the world. No one except of few tourists keen on antiquities and cheap carpets paid any attention to it. Even the Ottomans who ran the place largely ignored it.

Then, a miracle happened and it became the most important place on Earth, the locus of all the world's hate and outrage...

... Jews wanted to live there.
