Destroying History

Mr. Buttigieg is just following liberal policy here. Liberal icon Joe Stalin photoshopped Nicky Yezhov's pic from official records after Mr. Yezhov fell from favor.

Stalin was never a liberal...You don't know history very well..
Of course he was. Don't you realize that everyone bad in the world is/was a liberal?
Including God when he was young... Jesus was the libertarian..

Monuments are not history, they are a way of honoring people or ideas. I can see how people who never really read a book would think that history lives in stone and bronze but at best they are history distorted. The founders were fine men of their times but apart from the remarkable ideals they fought for I cannot bring myself to care that much about the deification of mere men. The ideas are what I care about and those can only be found in books and minds. The final word on what monuments are can be found here:

Ozymandias
Percy Bysshe Shelley - 1792-1822

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
'My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away."

Dear Buttgagg.

Leviticus 18
1
The LORD said to Moses,
2
"Speak to the Israelites and say to them: `I am the LORD your God.
3
You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices.
4
You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the LORD your God.
5
Keep my decrees and laws, for the man who obeys them will live by them. I am the LORD.
6
"`No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the LORD.
7
"`Do not dishonor your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; do not have relations with her.
8
"`Do not have sexual relations with your father's wife; that would dishonor your father.
9
"`Do not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father's daughter or your mother's daughter, whether she was born in the same home or elsewhere.
10
"`Do not have sexual relations with your son's daughter or your daughter's daughter; that would dishonor you.
11
"`Do not have sexual relations with the daughter of your father's wife, born to your father; she is your sister.
12
"`Do not have sexual relations with your father's sister; she is your father's close relative.
13
"`Do not have sexual relations with your mother's sister, because she is your mother's close relative.
14
"`Do not dishonor your father's brother by approaching his wife to have sexual relations; she is your aunt.
15
"`Do not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law. She is your son's wife; do not have relations with her.
16
"`Do not have sexual relations with your brother's wife; that would dishonor your brother.
17
"`Do not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. Do not have sexual relations with either her son's daughter or her daughter's daughter; they are her close relatives. That is wickedness.
18
"`Do not take your wife's sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is living.
19
"`Do not approach a woman to have sexual relations during the uncleanness of her monthly period.
20
"`Do not have sexual relations with your neighbor's wife and defile yourself with her.
21
"`Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed [1] to Molech, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD.
22
"`Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.
23
"`Do not have sexual relations with an animal and defile yourself with it. A woman must not present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; that is a perversion.
24
"`Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled.
25
Even the land was defiled; so I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants.
26
But you must keep my decrees and my laws. The native-born and the aliens living among you must not do any of these detestable things,
27
for all these things were done by the people who lived in the land before you, and the land became defiled.
28
And if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before you.
29
"`Everyone who does any of these detestable things--such persons must be cut off from their people.
30
Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the LORD your God.'"

IMHO, Jefferson's ideas WERE remarkable and should continue to be honored. He was raised and remained a slave owner of vast plantations. He did not believe blacks were equal to whites, yet he knew slavery was a huge hypocritical stain on new country's ideals. It is what it is. He was a man of his time, one of the landed gentry. His views on blacks was not peculiar to him. It should not take away from what he accomplished and his remarkable ideas.

Buttigieg is pandering to the anti-american bigots.
Using his own logic Roosevelt's statues should be removed and his face should be removed from the dime because he was opposed to civil rights and he illegally rounded up Japanese Americans and put them in concentration camps.

I totally understand the "man of his times" argument and accept it but it matters that he was a slave owner when we go to honor any man.

My dads great grandpa was a slave owner. 17 or 19 as I recall. He taught them to read the bible and let them "breed".
After slavery was abolished they opted to stay with them and they got a % of the take from the crops. Mississipi, not cotton but many other things are what I recall being told when I was a pup in the late fifties or so. Horses, some cattle, poultry, corn.
He had an old timey feed store too. He was a Methodist minister as a hobby.

Trump snowflakes are easily led by Fox and other right wing dark money sites. Trump is the savior to the weak and resentful, how did Americans get so weak that they look to a con-artist as their leader is the real puzzle.

"What is patriotism? Let us begin with what patriotism is not. It is not patriotic to dodge the draft and to mock war heroes and their families. ....
.

McCain was being an asshole and deserved to be called out on it.

It is not reasonable to call that, "not patriotic".

YOu are a dishonest asshole.

My parents came from sharecroppers. Do not fool yourself that he was doing anyone any favors.

It says right in the article that he does not think we should erase him from the history books just quit naming things after him, directly contradicting the title. I don't care either way but this is a good example of why Fox news sucks balls.
Lol
ideas from progressives suck balls

The point is to diminish the stature of the Founders because 18th Century thinking does not fall in line with the "enlightened" nonsense of our modern day Democrats, and all that will need to be swept away, Taliban-like, prior to any attempt to enforce their socialist utopian dream.

Lol
Progressives ideas are always Orwellian in nature... fact

"What is patriotism? Let us begin with what patriotism is not. It is not patriotic to dodge the draft and to mock war heroes and their families. It is not patriotic to discriminate against active-duty members of the armed forces in one's companies, or to campaign to keep disabled veterans away from one's property. It is not patriotic to compare one's search for sexual partners in New York with the military service in Vietnam that one has dodged. It is not patriotic to avoid paying taxes, especially when American working families do pay. It is not patriotic to ask those working, taxpaying American families to finance one's own presidential campaign, and then to spend their contributions in one's own companies. It is not patriotic to admire foreign dictators. It is not patriotic to cultivate a relationship with Muammar Gaddafi; or to say that Bashar al-Assad and Vladimir Putin are superior leaders. It is not patriotic to call upon Russia to intervene in an American presidential election. It is not patriotic to cite Russian propaganda at rallies." Snyder is a whack-job who equates Trump with Hitler.

Speaking of History Crushing....have you watched the Sons of Liberty on the History Channel? Jefferson has a bit part but Sam Adams. Oh my

I haven't seen that, but it sounds like a good program for the Sam Adams Brewing Company to sponsor. It could help make their leading beverage to attain a heroic character and reputation.
Real men drink Yuenglings.

I restrict myself to distilled spirits only. Anything else is pointless.

For those see these men as divine prophets sent down from on high with the true last word on human governance they need to be diminished to the mere humans they were.

They were highly successful, educated humans who created the greatest republic the world has ever seen via the model they devised.

What have your dimwitted "leaders" accomplished, other than to undermine that successful model?

Gonna start another civil war? Best reconsider.

The idea of the Founding Fathers to change from Tyranny run by liberals like George III to liberty, freedom and capitalism was unprecedented before in human history. Truly astonishing and a "novus ordo seclorum" , a New Order for the ages that worked out great.
