I do blame those who attacked the embassy, and while they shouldn't have done what they did, their extremism is what caused them to act out in such a way. But, you also need to look at what the response was, and lots of conservatives are blaming Hillary and Obama for a lack of it, when the original lack of response (and the place where concrete action could have been taken to save the ambassador) happened at the hands of the CIA station chief. He stopped the body guards for over 2 hours from going to rescue the ambassador. lf they had been able to go and get him when they wanted to, instead of having to wait, the ambassador could have very well been saved and still alive today.

It's 400 miles from Tripoli to Benghazi.. Remember that Congress had decided not to fund security at any US embassy except in Kabul and Baghdad. There was no consulate in Benghazi. Never was.

The CIA station (where the ambassador's bodyguards stayed when they weren't escorting him around) was only 1 mile away from where the compound the ambassador was staying in that was attacked. By the way, you're absolutely correct that it was Congress who decided not to fund any security, and it was mostly Republicans who voted for that. And no, again you are correct, there wasn't an embassy there, but there WAS a diplomatic post there, which is why Christopher Stephens (the ambassador who was killed) was there.
