The Blue Hole near Belize can be seen from space. It is the largest sink hole on the planet with depth of almost 400 ft. Discovery channel hyped the episode for a couple of weeks but surprise, surprise it wasn't live. Even though half a dozen screens in the "studio" said "LIVE" the Discovery Channel admitted that it was a day old "due to rough sea conditions". It was well known that there is a one of hydrogen sulfide that prevents decay so anything could be down there. Tensions were high as the submersible approached the "death zone" but (spoiler warning) there is nothing down there except silt, dead crabs and beer bottles. All we got was a lecture on global warming, an interview with Costeau grandson, Fabian and an exciting account of a crab falling into the abyss and trying to crawl out.

You mean tell it to the morons watching this and believing that no one has ever dived there before

The bottom is around 400 ft deep beyond the range of conventional diving. Allegedly there are human remains from scuba divers that went down and never came back. Jaques Costeau's primitive submersible allegedly got in trouble on a dive. There is a death zone where no oxygen exists so there would be no decay of organic matter such as wood or animal tissue. It's a good sell but it came up blank and the photography wasn't even that good.

Who dives anymore, robotic sub drones are the rage now. They don't get the bends and 400 feet is easy. There is another show out there that does this same thing, it's called expedition unknown, it's all interesting but complete BS as well, just like suddenly the blue hole was discovered and a no oxygen zone holds aliens or something.

As for the deepest sinkhole, do try to keep up and not depend on the discovery channel

As local fishermen tell it, the deep blue "Dragon Hole" in the Paracel Islands, called the "eye" of the South China Sea, is where the Monkey King in "Journey to the West" acquired his famous golden cudgel.

The mythical tale was published in the 16th century and is among the four great classical novels of Chinese literature. Last week, the Dragon Hole earned a new claim to fame.

After nearly a year of exploration, Chinese researchers have determined that the underwater sinkhole is likely the world's deepest, reaching about 987 feet below the surface and surpassing the previous record holder, Dean's Blue Hole near the Bahamas, by more than 300 feet, Xinhua News Agency reported.
