Disney scraps plans for new Florida campus, mass employee relocation amid DeSantis feud

Orlando business owners don't give a shit about the radical right's ginned up culture wars. They're going to be pissed at Meatball Ron and the Republicans in the legislature. This is a major hit to Florida's economy. And it's snowballing. Florida agriculture can't get migrants to stay and pick their fruits and vegetables because of DeSantis' new law. Professors and teachers are leaving the state. Loss of prestige for the universities means that it's not as attractive to prized football recruits, who will go to other states.

And to top it off, the legislature still hasn't sent the bill to DeSantis that allows him to stay governor while running for president - Trumpers are holding it up to help Dementia Donny.

And now its Disney's turn. 2,000 jobs by by.

KEY POINTS
  • Disney will no longer be moving forward with the construction of its Lake Nona, Florida, employee campus.
  • The company will also no longer be requiring California-based employees to relocate.
  • The announcement comes amid a bitter feud between the company and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis centered in part around the company's special district and development plans.

Disney has abandoned plans to open up a new employee campus in Lake Nona, Florida, amid rising tensions with the state's governor.
Citing "changing business conditions" and the return of CEO Bob Iger, Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney's parks, experiences and products division, penned a memo to employees Thursday, announcing that the company will not move forward with construction of the campus and will no longer be asking more than 2,000 California-based employees to relocate to Florida.

Sounds great, I doubt FL would want 2000 CA's moving there anyway. You can bet the majority of them will be woke commies.

.

Transferred from CA, dumbfuck. The jobs are lost in one place and moved to another--no loss no gain regardless of what level they are. ESAD
... yet they are lost to FL.
So how did it work when the government had social media shut down free speech regarding COVID and Hunters laptop?
If "shut down" means conspiracy theories about Covid were fact checked, sure. If "shut down" means conspiracy theories about Hunter's laptop were fact checked, sure.

Thank you Ronnie for screwing the State of Florida! But you got your point across. If you disagree with Ronnie, you are punished. Disneyvis laughing and Little trump.
Florida had a record budget surplus

Cali has a record state budget deficit

Florida is doing fine

It is just the beginning of the results of desantis temper tantrum war. Let's see:

Construction and agricultural projects are shutting down because desantis is pushing migrants out of the state.

Disney is closing down a high end motel in September

Teachers are leaving the state because desantis is threatening them with legal action if they teach anything he does not approve

Colleges and Universities in the state are afraid they will be the next victim of the desantus morality squad

And you idiots bought the lie…….the democrat minions tell you to jump and you scream..”how high.”

But if you read the details, the reality is that Disney cancelled one small part of its Florida plans for less than $1 billion, and kept almost all its other plans. And even that $1 billion was not such a sweet deal for Florida, since it was subsidized by over $500 million in tax incentives, and there were doubts that the job growth, which was by transferring employees from southern California, even could happen.

The New York Times told that complete story, but it’s headline was as misleading as the rest, Disney Pulls Plug on $1 Billion Development in Florida (emphasis added):

————-
A spokesman for Mr. DeSantis said in an email: “Disney announced the possibility of a Lake Nona campus nearly two years ago. Nothing ever came of the project, and the state was unsure whether it would come to fruition. Given the company’s financial straits, falling market cap and declining stock price, it is unsurprising that they would restructure their business operations and cancel unsuccessful ventures.”
—————

It also appeared that the project was just part of a list of prior Disney projects pulled back by returning CEO Bob Iger (emphasis added):

Mr. Iger, who came out of retirement to retake Disney’s reins, was much less enthusiastic about the project — even before the company became mired in its battle with Mr. DeSantis. As soon as he returned to Disney, Mr. Iger began telling lieutenants, for instance, that it made little sense to move Imagineering so far away from Disney’s movie studios. As he is fond of saying, “Creative teams need to be together.”

The larger question is, "Why were they relocating the jobs from California in the first place".

Is California not consistent with Disney's corporate values?

As is usually the case with the democrat party press…..never believe what they say ……….

Turns out, the story is a lie……..the other 13,000 jobs are still scheduled….

He noted that $17 billion was still earmarked for construction at Disney World over the next decade — growth that would create an estimated 13,000 jobs.
————-
So this was a project that appeared dead in the water unrelated to DeSantis, would not create new jobs for Floridians (instead importing 2,000 Californians), and would cost Florida almost $600 million in tax incentives to Disney. Sounds like Disney scrapping the deal was both unrelated to DeSantis and best for all involved.

So, the democrat party controlled media lies again……and idiots like you keep believing them…..

You call Inclusion....Grooming? You call Woke......Evil? The MAGA mentality is to hate and punish if you disagree with them.

Not inclusion…grooming….just ask the child stars of Disney what happened to them……

Supporting the grooming of children is not inclusion..unless supporting child molesting is what you consider inclusion….

You're
No....Disney has no clue who they are fucking with......

And Disney has lost at each point.........and they just lost 4 million subscribers.......as they push grooming of children for sex......

You're basing your feelings on a lie.

The same republicans who jumped all over AOC's opposition to an Amazon facility and it's resulting relocation are applauding InSantis's botching of whatever his latest problem with Disney is.

Hypocrisy is their brand.
AOC went after them cuz capitalism is bad in her mind. DeSantis is punishing Disney because they tried to fight his bills and criticize him non stop. They are going against the will of the voters of that state, so of course they should be punished.

And yet you STILL avoid admitting the obvious.
If you watched any of the whistleblower hearing yesterday, it was Obvious the Progs were all educated from pre meetings to spew the same rhetoric. Politicians who are seasoned with experience as the never leave office and know nothing else, use it to convince their voters. I know you are breaking my stones with my word play on threads as pinpoint wording is more difficult than direction wording.

What i appreciate is what you, very disingenuously avoid, is that I am against any privileges, for any entity, public or private, that is handed out by government.

The disbursement of government largess is the heart of corruption and the reason why we cannot aspire to honest governance in this country.

What I also appreciate is any entity that feels so entitled to that privilege that they feel ill used if they choose to turn on those who granted that privilege.

Disney had a choice... take their special benefits and stay out of politics, or to put those benefits at risk by choosing to go up against the government that bestowed them.

Disney choose unwisely.

That is a lot of words just to say "yep, we support the Govt attacking an entity for exercising their 1st amendment rights".

How are they "going against the will of the voters"?

How are they "going against the will of the voters"?
Disney should be what they were chartered to do. A higher percentage of their employees are gay and extreme feminist than many other fields of work. When started in the 1960's this region of Florida was conservative and rural. There are wild variations of political views depending on the direction away from Disney. However, the trending is Progressive Socialist as it slowly spreads.
