Do we need military bases in foreign countrie?

Why is it the responsibility of the USA to go broke protecting these other countries?

We are there protecting our own national interests. You've been told this several times now, so if you just keep asking the same question looking for a different answer, you're nuts.

none of you has provided a real answer, just talking points and BS. so I wll be more concise.

What specifically is our national interest in keeping north korea from annexing south korea?

What specifically is our national interest in keeping China from reclaiming Taiwan?

How would either of those things negatively impact the USA?

you libs want the defense budget cut

Who are "you libs," and when did you ever see me call for cuts to the defense budget? Get your shit straight before you post, moron.

my mistake, when one posts liberal bullshit, I assume that he/she is a liberal. :eusa_whistle:

You see what you want to see because you're a fucking moron. Stop making asinine assumptions just because you can't form a coherent argument on ANY topic.

Lets talk about this. Why do we have military bases in foreign countries? What national interest are they protecting? Should the host country pay for the base? Should we close them unless the host country pays?

Why is it our role to protect South Korea and Japan from China?

Why is it our role to protect Germany from Russia?

We have a vested interest in having other free democracies on Earth. And as the leader of the free world ask yourself what is in our best interests and what should we be obliged to do?

To help others gain and maintain their freedom?

To help them stand up to Communism?

To help protect the supplies of oil to our trading partners?

To make sure that in any circumstances when a small revolt or insurrection might explode into something bigger and much worse that we would eventually have to solve when it was mush costlier to do in blood and treasure, having bases in those countries allows us a smart and less expensive way of preventing major problems we'd have to deal with later.

I keep asking because you have not answered. So lets try once more.

I understand that that is the rhetoric put forth by both parties for the last 70 years or so.

but are we better off because of what we sacrificed in viet nam, kosovo, iraq, afghanistan, libya? have our bases in europe prevented russia from invading Ukraine? have our bases prevented the slaughter in africa? have our bases prevented the muslim radicals from taking control of most of the mid east?

this thread is to get people to open their minds, forget the rhetoric and THINK.

You have been answered many times now. You just don't like the answer, and in your deep stupidity you think you can get a different one if you keep asking. You're brain dead.

actually you are brain dead because you refuse to think about the question and instead merely repeat the lies that you have been told.

AGAIN, doesn't like the answer so he keeps repeating the question = insanity

They are there because if something happens to our interest they are in the area and can deploy faster

You have to consider each one individually.

But, without even Googling, I can make an argument that each of them HAS made us better off.

Except Libya.

Too soon.

We have to wait to see if the MSM begins to act like real journalists again.

Until then we will never know the story of Libya.

have our bases in europe prevented russia from invading Ukraine?

No one could have seriously expected the US to exercise a goal line defense for Ukraine.

The country was once one of Russia's fellow states. The population on the East of the Dnieper River WANT Russia to govern them.

have our bases prevented the slaughter in africa?

In the areas where they exert an influence they do.

Your question might argue for even MORE bases in the parts of Africa where slaughters have taken place except that you then must ask yourself, what is our actual interest in having a base there?"

Oil is a good reason. But in that part of Africa we might have no good reasons to be there. That means there will likely continue to be slaughters.

have our bases prevented the muslim radicals from taking control of most of the mid east?

In Iraq they did. In Kuwait they did. In Saudi Arabia they did.

In the rest of the Mid East we'd have to ask where do we have bases?

let me try!

The national interest in Korea is to prevent filthy communist from creating a situation nobody wants or any president has wanted to deal with since Ike. That national interest is to maintain the status quo, and keep millions of refugees spilling over Chinese border in the event of war. So it's in both superpowers national interest to maintain this bullshit indefinitely.

The national interest in Taiwan is by treaty and helps prevent communist scum from furthering their filthy commie interests in the dirty East Chink Sea via successful negotiations with maritime fisherman from Japan. Taiwan has been a helpful 3rd party attempting to play mediator in the sabre rattling going on in that area. Whatever checks filthy Chinese Commie expansionism is in our national interest. Ultimately however, it will be the 20 million or more citizens of that nation that will ultimately decide if they'd rather be dead or red.

Zero national interest in Korea, should let them defend themselves.
Zero national interest in taiwan, all they make is crap stuff anyways, Chinese stuff is much better and more plentiful.

We have nuclear subs with nuclear and conventional warheads in every ocean, we have ships in every ocean, we have drones and long range bombers who can get to any place on earth in a few hours.

land bases are obsolete and a waste of money.

if the host country wants us there, they should pay the entire bill.

The USA is in deficit every year, we cannnot continue to spend our money protecting the world from each other.
