Don’t get fooled again

Next year the Democrats will say that they will impeach President Trump if he is reelected. They will be trying to suppress Trump supporter turn-out to win the election. They did the same thing to President George H.W. Bush in 1991 and they beat him.
GHWB lost because he allowed himself to get rolled by democrats on the "no new taxes" pledge....Or, as the state worshiping neocon that he was, he just went ahead and allowed a tax increase because he really did love Big Bother.

In any event, he did it to himself....He sold himself as Reagan's 3rd term and failed miserably.....And don't try to blame Perot...If Poppy was worth a shit, Perot couldn't have attracted flies.

I voted for Perot precisely because Bush was an inept punching bag who guaranteed a Democrat congress. I knew that the only way to change that was to give the Dems control of the White House, too. It only took two years to elect a GOP Congress.

Habitual partisan voters don't matter, the swing voters elect the president. Trump is not doing well with them.

Of course they matter. The trick to winning elections is not Independents, the trick is to energize your base so they want to go out and vote.

Of course but that alone is not enough. I find swing voters incomprehensible in our current political climate but these people actually exist in large enough numbers that they elect the president. Appealing to them will be a tricky proposition for someone like Trump who is quick to insultingly dismiss the skeptical.

Mitt Romney won the Independent vote. How is President Mitt doing these days?

Last midterms had record turnouts for both parties. The Democrats energized their base using hate, and they happened to win out. Without the constant hate message, the Republicans could have kept the House and even added to their lead.

Democrats understand this so their concern is keeping the hate going and worry about Independents another time.

Seeing as independents account for roughly 50% of qualified voters, each of the two major parties accounts for roughly 25% of voters, and a candidate's "base" typically accounts for 1/3 to 1/2 of their party's members, your math is waaaay off. Even 100% base turnout will never be enough to secure an election.

Apparently my math is superior to yours.

"Whoever wins independent voters in Ohio, wins Ohio," Beeson said on "Fox News Sunday," two days before the election.

He was, of course, wrong. Romney won self-identified Independents in Ohio by a overwhelming 10 points, according to exit polls, but lost the state to President Barack Obama by 2 points.

A similar trend was seen across much of the country — Romney won among Independents by 5 points, 50-45, but lost to Obama, 51-48. The numbers illustrate why winning the Independent vote in pre-election polls isn't necessarily a telltale sign of victory, as many political strategists have suggested.

Why Winning The Independent Vote Can Actually Be A Bad Thing
