I got my first job in 1962 and I remained steadily employed until I retired in 2015. Needless to say things were very different when I entered the workforce. Virtually every company in the US offered employee healthcare and pension benefits. I was in the Steelworker’s Union for 20 years before I went to work for a local employer that was not unionized but offered decent benefits including a pension for all workers that qualified.

Today I get a pension checks from the Steelworker’s Pension Trust and the local firm where I was employed for nearly 30 years. That’s on top of a 401k and a generous Social Security check I receive for over 50 years of steady work. I mention this because many of you have been, and will continue to be, robbed of these benefits because the political elite in US, both Republicans and Democrats, sold you out to globalization.

Beginning in the late 1990’s, the company I worked for in Keene along with many others nationally began hiring accounting experts to cook the books by stealing benefits from employees. It was to increase profit margins for shareholders that conspired with the political elite to purchase a ticket to build infrastructure in foreign countries.

There was a that big meeting in the 1990’s where the company announced that pensions would no longer be offered and a formula was concocted to grandfather some in while many others were just swindled out of what they were promised. I know some that missed out by days. Globalization was on the march and the blitzkrieg was financed with worker’s benefits.

Pensions were a bad idea for American workers because foreign workers didn’t get them and this would put American companies at a disadvantage if they wanted to exploit workers in other countries. Pensions, however, are a great idea for American politicians and academics and they continue to enjoy them while they support policies that take yours away.

I got in under the wire but you and my children did not. Do you wonder why Donald Trump got elected? Or will you continue to be sweet-talked by slick intellectuals and elites that slyly import cheap labor in caravans trudging through Mexico?

Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Maybe after they legalize marijuana it won’t matter to you. You’ll be old and sick but so buzzed that maybe you won’t care.

God bless you Ray, you speak the truth. For most it is 30 years and out but you stuck with it for 50 years. People today only look at hourly wages without realizing that losing healthcare and other benefits and now having to pay partly for it yourself + a deductible, is like taking a 30% pay cut. The young today are working for dirt and not even realizing it.

1. Western foreign countries have way more protections for workers, and citicens in general, so unless you're talking about third world countries, then your point is moot.

2. Which party is the one that's uber pro-business and anti-workers rights? Hint, it's only one.

That was as vague as you can get. List specific examples or this is pure opinion...nothing more.

Show me ONE nation that is not poverty striken that is NOT "Pro-Business"
BUSINESS is the life blood of ALL modern economies. Pirating and plundering by force went out in the late 1700's. You need to talk with Tyler Perry or any of the millions of Democrat Black businessmen and women who have made fortunes because of REPUBLICAN policies that Democrats are now working overtime to take away through Socialist Fascism.

As far as "Worker's Rights".....
You're most likely referring to Unions which the SUPREME COURT has ruled has been illegally FORCING workers to support causes that violate their freedom of speech.

You are wrong on many counts, but trying to explain it to you is a lost cause. I just hope someone open to reality and not as biased as yourself reads it.

Your REAL enemy (not Republicans) has you on a short tight leash, and you can't even feel it.

Your party has thrown blue collar employees overboard, in order to play your Balkanizing intersectional identity politics, comrade.

Blue collar workers are all a bunch of uneducated rubes anyway. Probably racist, and don't even respect gender neutral pronouns so screw em.

This is all the more reason to reform the tax code and allow individuals to save a significant portion of their incomes tax free for retirement instead of paying into SS and depending upon pensions.
