Down goes DOMA!!

Wish they would just get the hell out of marriage period.

That's a dumb libertarian talking point.

Marriage (dissolution of marriage) is about property.

Government's main function is to protect property (boundaries, ownership, possessions).

Lol...wrong. Marriage is a CONTRACT between 2 people absolutely no reason the government needs to be involved if its a divorce and only then the civil court needs involved.

VERY BIG DECISION -- all federal rights have just been granted to same-sex couples.

The wording of this decision puts all anti-gay laws into jeopardy.

Wrong. It only upholds gay marriages in 11 states that allow it.

WRONG.

11 states can not violate equal-protection under the U.S. Constitution.

They will all soon fall.

Not all of DOMA was struck down, the only part that was struck down was saying couples had to be of opposite sex. Federal benefits apply yes, but the states that do not have legal gay marriage still holds.

Yep....the 39 (for now) states. Didn't it used to be 50?

Covered by contract law

Contract law written by....

Contract law enforced by...

Contract law regulated by....

Contract law is one aspect to "Property".

Who runs the courts?

Who do judges work for?

Who do regulators work for?

The main reason for the existence of government is to band together for self-protection.

Even in communist countries where there is no private property, that is the sole reason for the existence of government.

I'd recommend you go ask for a refund on your College tuition now, but I don't think the University of Phoenix gives refunds

This ruling, AFAICT, does nothing to restrict States (who traditionally set Marriage requirements and standards)...... Yet.

The ruling on Californication's Prop 8 could seal the deal one way or the other. THAT is the important ruling, IMO

The very broadly worded majority decision strikes down all anti-gay laws under equal protection.

Get a clue.

Its actually a very narrowly written opinion that is based on the fact that a state has issued a marriage liscence, and the federal government cannot use the details of said licsence to discriminate between one holder of it and another. The equal protection comes from being a marriage liscence holder, not from anything to do with the sex of the couple.

It says nothing about having to issue the liscence to same sex couples.

As a strict constructionist I approve of this decsion.

Self-protection of life, liberty, and...........................property.

I just deleted a bunch of one liner insults/trolls etc.

This is the political forum, if you want to just be insulting and provide zero input topically, go start a thread elsewhere, if it doesn’t stop this thread will be moved and repeat offenders infracted……

Nope...that's next. Section 2 of DOMA will be challenged in no time.

Obviously the agenda of the radical left trumps the will of the people. A marriage is a contract between a man and a woman, not two men or two women or a man and a child. The United States is the most tolerant Country in the world but homosexuals crave what they will never get, acceptance.

DOMA and Prop 8! Woo motherfucking hoo!!!!!!

Marriage in CA and Federal recognition of those marriages!!!

Yeah - lets celebrate a liberal Supreme Court telling the American people "I don't care what you voted for, we will decide for you". Keep applauding Wytch, just like the Nazi's did for Adolf Hitler. That ended so well....

Really?

Wow....

Dense mother fucker you are....
only had that law in the place thanks to slick willy

Slick Willy indeed! He knew he was signing something that would not stand eventually. :clap2::clap2::clap2: The Right set themselves up for eventual failure constitutionally, and Slick Willy gladly said ok. :clap2::clap2::clap2:

so, clinton gets pass for signing it becasue he knew that what, 15, 17 years later the SC would see it partially his way? Thats some pretty specious get out of jail free card, you could apply that to anything.

Sad day for Faith and Religion in the Western World.

Great day for the perversion of one of the longest running institutions in the history of man.
