Days before the March 1 deadline, Senate Republicans are circulating a draft bill that would cancel $85 billion in across-the-board spending cuts and instead turn over authority to President Barack Obama to achieve the same level of savings under a plan to be filed by March 8.

The five- page document, which has the tacit support of Senate GOP leaders, represents a remarkable shift for the party. Having railed against Senate Democrats for not passing a budget, Republicans are now proposing that Congress surrender an important piece of its Constitutional “power of the purse” for the last seven months of this fiscal year.

In case anyone was wondering, the GOP is absolutely worthless.

I used to have a doubt.

But nowadays, the only thing worse than the useless GOP is the occasionally effective Democrat Party.

Both Parties are controlled by Banking and Special Interests. You have to look beyond the Kabuki Theater of D.C. to see the real people in charge.

The big banks and corporations donate big $$$ to BOTH parties, so there shouldn't be any doubt at all

Sorry to intrude on this love fest, but isn't just to give Executive Branch agencies discretionary authority over where the cuts will be made? Is it really that big a deal?

No. That's not all it is.

And yes. It is a pretty big deal:

As proposed, lawmakers would retain the power to overturn the president’s spending plan by March 22, but only under a resolution of disapproval that would demand two-thirds majorities in both the House and Senate to prevail over an Obama veto.

The proposal would require — like the sequester — that no more than $42.6 billion of the cuts come at the expense of defense programs. But the elaborate, almost Rube Goldberg construct is already provoking sharp criticism from Republicans and Democrats alike and reflects a political scramble to escape the fallout from the sequester.

Damn boy. Learn how to read. I said it was linked from Drudge and I noted that it was from politico.

EDIT:

Correction. Actually, the thread headline mentioned the Drudge report (because Drudge had it up). Then I clicked on the link and went to the Politico site which is where I linked the copied snippet from. But in any case, you toss the word "moron" around pretty fucking casually over such an inconsequential matter. I had expected more from you.

Thanks for remaining obtuse to amuse the rest of us.

Banks, insurance corporations and big oil, to be specific.

Don't forget about Big Education, while you're at that. Never really understood why they always get a pass despite the damage they are doing as well.

The GOP doesn't do much that's smart these days, but I say this is a good move. Give obama what he wants, let him have it. This country was stupid enough to put obama in there, and stupidity should be painful. The faster things fall apart the quicker we can fix it. Let obama and the democrats own it.

Go ahead and give Obama more power...
This goes badly he turns around and blames the republicans, the media backs him up and those that
voted for Obama walk away "knowing" the GOP is to blame.

I want to wait until this is settled before I spend any more time on it.
I have a feeling the GOP is gonna fuck this up.

What a bunch of clowns. They just want to be able to say either:

- Obama cut military funding
or
- Obama spent like a drunk soccer mom

By ceding power, and thus, ceding THEIR responsibility to govern, they act like cowards. No wonder most of America decided the GOP is not fit to govern. THey are now saying so themselves.

Exactly!

It will be difficult to top this study in cowardice.

So the GOP plans on "winning" through quitting...... A tactic obviously taken from the Sarah Palin playbook.

If the GOP would just be rational about compromise instead of trying every trick they can think of to get their way, they wouldn't be considered laughingstock today.
