El Chapo, a Mexican Folk Hero

With only a vacuum of special pleading to work with? Are you claiming we should end our useless wars on Crime, Poverty, and Terror merely to engage in a "real" War on Drugs.

Poverty, Yes. I'm suggesting we limit the others to the appropriate area.... Our territory for the wars on Crime, Terror and Drugs and that we undertake them as actual WARS. If the criminals, terrorists and drug dealers stay away from the US we have no need to bother them.
Do you believe Bush, the younger, would have been elected if he had claimed he needed wartime tax rates for his war on terror?

El Chapo sounds like something I had for lunch at Taco Bell. "I'd Like An Extra Large El Chapo, hold the lettuce and extra pickles please".
would that be, supersize it to a, El Chapo grande?
i can just see myself going into my taco bell, and saying, yes, I would like a supersize Chapo Burrito, extra hot peppers, extra onion, and extra ostrich balls please.

In spite of those trying to divert the thread, there were some good posts.

Guys like el Chapo were born in small village and tend to build their haciendas in those same areas.

If you've ever traveled into the back country areas like I have, you will see just how little government does for its people. There are still small villages in the mountain areas without electricity, running water, sewage, paved roads, and good schools.

Drug lords need workers and ensure the people living in their areas get such services, paying for them out of their drug profits. That is why many are held in higher esteem than the government - local, state, and federal.

While there is no excuse for the killing, most of it is between the various cartel "security" forces.

And, THE BOTTOM LINE IS - if it were not for the consumption of their products by AMERICANS, they would soon be out of business. It's why they hate the current movement to legalize marijuana.

Is the Right on this board just full of fallacy regarding the amount of Socialism in Mexico?

There is far less "socialism" in Mexico than you know. While a big deal is made about "Universal Health Care" it generally doesn't exist except for the big cities. Schools in the small towns and villages are often primitive with unqualified teachers,

Government agencies build huge, modern buildings for themselves and leave the peones living like 100 years ago.

I've heard this first hand and was told people felt safer around him than their local police. Said he care for the little people and improves their lives while government officials get fat and live in luxury.

The drug dealers do more for the people than the government does,” said Eric Reyes, 33, a systems engineer from Mexico City, who stopped by the shrine out of curiosity while on vacation. “If you live in a dealer’s territory he treats you well. The government won’t do anything for you. It’s all bureaucracy and red tape.”

This comes from Public Enemy? At Home in Mexico, ‘El Chapo’ Is Folk Hero No. 1 @ http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/18/w...many-mexicans-hearts.html?partner=rss&emc=rss

Maybe El Chapo is no El Cheapo when it comes to helping out the have nots in his neck of the woods. Good for him.

Chapo?

Wasn't that one of the Marx brothers?

Harpo, Groucho, Zeppo and Chapo.

It's the same old story we've seen a thousand times before. There have been many American mafia figures who were considered folk heroes in their areas as well. A lot of times these crime lords buy their support, and sometimes people just like a good bad guy.
