In 1769, about 100 Spaniards entered the southern border of present-day California. For the next 50 years, this tiny group of Europeans ruled over tens of thousands of natives. However, pressure from the east saw more and more Yanks and non-Mexicans enter the state until, in 1840 the UsofA put its stamp on the state. As the years passed, more and more Gringos moved in, quickly out-numbering Hispanics (many were not Mexicans but Californians by birth).
So, for the first time in many years, it appears Latinos have come to take back the state for themselves – now outnumbering “whites”. As most Latinos comes from a conservative Catholic background, will their growing numbers have an impact on changing the Big Brother state government?
