France has elections today for regional councils. Far right is slated to do big, socialists, the government party, are supposed to do poorly.

PARIS, France (AFP) – France’s far-right National Front (FN) is widely predicted to take a step Sunday towards grabbing control of at least one region for the first time, with both leader Marine Le Pen and her niece expected to perform strongly.

The first round of regional elections comes three weeks after the jihadist attacks in Paris that left 130 people dead, thrusting the FN’s anti-immigration and what critics call sometimes Islamophobic message to the fore.

Around 44 million people are eligible to vote and ballots will be cast under tight security with France in a state of emergency following the attacks on the capital. First projections are expected at 1900 GMT.

Le Pen is on course to top the poll in the economically-depressed Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie region in the north, once a bastion of the left.

Her 25-year-old niece Marion Marechal-Le Pen, meanwhile, seems to be heading for an equally strong score in the vast southeastern Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region that includes the beaches thronged by sun-seekers in the summer.

Opinion polls give the FN between 27 percent and 30 percent of the vote in the first round, a similar score to the center-right Republicans led by former president Nicolas Sarkozy.

heard that 'la'pen' is going to do well , didn't know that there were 2 of them . Hope both of them do well if they share the same politics that I have heard about .

France’s far-right National Front = Moderate (or center right) republicans in the US..

Europe is very far to the left that is why most of their policies have failed..

Very interesting.

lets hope no homosexual women have crept into their admin, like what happen to the British nation during ww2

The right has won the first round:

Front National wins opening round in France's regional elections

The far-right Front National has made historic gains in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks, emerging as the winner in the opening round of regional elections and coming top in half of France’s regions.

The projected score is the highest vote that the anti-immigration, anti-European party has ever registered in a local election and, if the party maintains the strong lead in in next week’s second round, it could reshape the country’s political landscape.

The FN, which pushed a hardline stance on Islam, security and national identity, saw a poll boost in the wake of the Paris attacks three weeks ago in which Islamic State gunmen killed 130 at Paris bars, the Bataclan concert hall and in a suicide bombing outside the Stade de France.

First estimations on Sunday showed the FN on top nationally with between 27 – 30% of the vote, compared to only 11% in the last regional elections in 2010. The party also came top in six out 13 mainland French regions – a historic moment for the far-right which has never before held the leadership of a French region.
