The 'outrage' is a bit silly, but the NZ herald is a tabloid paper mostly, it creates outrage where none really exists. Doubt most people even read the article, let alone are concerned about the issue. New Zealand has civil unions and same-sex marriage, allowing easier adoption by same-sex couples is the next step (as currently you can only adopt as an individual LGBT person). The dissenters were basically ignored when same-sex marriage passed by a sound majority, and now it is a non-issue.
