This is what we tried to tell Bush about the war on terror. We believed that state law enforcement was more able to solve the problem than a federal bureaucracy. We trust hard working Boston cops over Washington politicians. Problem is: Republicans like to turn every problem into something that involves the federal government. Same thing with Reagan and the war on drugs. Rather than letting it be a local police matter, Republicans wanted to turn every joint and nickel bag into federal issue so we could expand the power and budget of federal agencies. The result has been a spectacular concentration of power and a massive burden to future generations . . . and the problem has only gotten worse. This is what Republicans do. Too bad their voters are kept in the dark by a media machine which never mentions any of this.
