So the next question is, what were they hiding?

Flynn was trying to hide the Sanctions meeting...why? who knows maybe he actually thought it would cause problems for Trump but meeting with the Russians was not illegal and actually expected for the president elect.

Except it violates the Logan Act to make promises, especially if they undermine the current US policy. There is only one president at a time, and when the new guy takes the throne, he can then promise anything he wants, but not before.

Moving closer and closer to Trump...

That is the key take-away from this indictment. So too is it important to note that so far, Trump, prior to being long into his presidency, dissociated himself from the figures who have been thus far indicted.

Another important observation to take from the Flynn indictment and guilty plea is that there is no legitimate political spin to invoke about it. The Democrats cannot be blamed for his having done so. Flynn has now admitted that he lied multiple times to the FBI about his interactions with Russian state actors and surrogates thereunto. That he did lie necessarily forces one to ask why did lie about that, most especially lie to the FBI about it.
