The OP misrepresents what the linked story is about. But we have a president who pushes an Alt-R view towards Europe. Russia is not the enemy to Trump. He's not big on free press, nor is he that big on free trade, so long as he can build his hotels ... and kickbacks are not bad things. The Germans appear to not comprehend what drove America to elect the guy.

The Germans have a trade imbalance because we prefer Mercedes and BMWs to Caddys and Lincolns, and on average we consume more and save less than they do.

And while the link is not really about global warming, Trump backed out of the climate deal not because it really limited our carbon emissions, but rather because it fits his Alt-R positions and supporters.

You are selectively picking passages from the article. It is far more than global climate change. Trump slams German automakers even though a number of German automakers make the cars they sell in the US in the US. Also the fact is that we did not want Germans to have a military after WW 2. Also there is a reason that Germany has a trade surplus with the US. The US is a consumer driven country with low savings rates. Germany is not a consumer driven country and has a high savings rate.
