GOP refuses to pass clean debt-ceiling increase

The GOP will take the blame for a default, just as they are taking the blame for the shutdown.

Which, of course, is all you care about because as always with someone as dishonest and dishonorable as yourself it's party before country.

They had no issue with this during the Bush years. Debt ceiling increases passed easily, and without conservatives gnashing their teeth.

This recent history is one of the reasons that the GOP is taking most of the blame. The American voters know that the GOP doesn't really have a problem increasing the debt ceiling, because they did it so often in recent memory during Dumbya Era.

yes, I want the debt ceiling to be raised, free of political garbage.

if you want to cut the budget, do it in a seperate bill.

don't hold the debt ceiling hostage to politics.

Boehner: U.S. Republicans will not pass 'clean' debt-limit increase - Yahoo Finance

Boehner has now stated that he and the GOP will hold the debt-ceiling increase, and indeed the financial health of the USA & the World, hostage to their budget cuts.

This makes me very sad. I thought they were smarter than this. I thought they were more Patriotic than this.

A partial govt. shutdown in order to get budget consessions is one thing, but threatening a debt default is a whole different creature.

This is a very dangerous path the GOP is taking. :(

Unfortunately, Congress consistently brings the government to the edge of default before facing its responsibility. This brinkmanship threatens the holders of government bonds and those who rely on Social Security and veterans benefits. Interest rates would skyrocket, instability would occur in financial markets, and the federal deficit would soar. The United States has a special responsibility to itself and the world to meet its obligations. It means we have a well-earned reputation for reliability and credibility -- two things that set us apart from much of the world."

Ronald Reagan, 1968

You are quite the obediant sheep.

causing the nation to default on its debt because they don't get the budget cuts they want, would be an act of legislative terrorism.

you think Ronald Reagan was an obedient sheep?

You believe that nonsense, you are the sheep pal.

Translation: How will the Dow react to Obama's talking down the markets?

Government shutdown: Wall Street angry at tea party it has no influence over

The reality is that deep-pocketed financial services executives and their lobbyists have little leverage against tea party lawmakers who don’t much care for financiers or big banks and don’t rely heavily on the industry for campaign cash.

.

I'll say it again: holding the nation's debt ceiling hostage to demands for budget cuts, is legislative terrorism.

I don't care if the GOP goes down in flames, but you don't have to take the rest of the nation with you.

The budget and debt are two different things.
The GOP is not threating a debt default.
The Dem's have always fought on overspending.
They had to be forced to cut back on the budget in 95.
Then the credit was given to President Clinton who fought it and was the cause of the shut down to begin with.

The Government will not default on the debt.

The Government has plenty of income coming in each month to pay the 30 Billion each month on the debt.

The Government has about 250 Billion each month that comes in.
Where is that coming from?
Gas Taxes
Phone, TV and Internet Taxes
Corporate Taxes
Estate Taxes
Gift Taxes
Excise Taxes
FICA Taxes
Tariff Taxes
Tobacco Taxes
Utility Taxes
There are a lot more than just these that are listed. This is just a few.

Why would the GOP threaten to let the debt default?

Are they mad?

If the Democrats threatened default during the last two years of the mistake-riddled Dumbya Presidency, conservatives would have had one of their patented mouth-frothing temper tantrums.

This is why Americans are mostly blaming the GOP.

There is recent history of a Dem-controlled Congress not using this tactic against Dumbya, and there is recent history of a GOP controlled Congress passing debt increases under Dumbya with a casual shrug of the shoulders.

This history is not that long ago. People remember it quite clearly. Conservatives seem to be the exception to this, and think they're winning.

We need to spend less than what we take in; first grade math! The liberals want to break the country into socialism with the help of the big spending republicans. We need to cut spending dramatically. Why even have a debt ceiling if the goal is to overspend beyond recovery?

Pass a fucking budget Reid - you fiscal derelict piece of shit!

The debt ceiling is the perfect forum to scrutinize, and debate the debt. Boehner would be derelict if he didn't make issue of the overspending financial collapse trajectory at this time.

As previously stated: there is plenty of money to service the debt. This is just liberal BS camouflage to deflect from their insatiable spending. :eusa_hand:

Same thing was done in 95.
The difference back then was a whole lot of talking going on and negotiations.
This time the White House has taking the stand of no talking and no negotiation.
It is the White House that wants to take the nation down in flames.
Someone needs to tell the President that he is not a dictator. Only dictators take the no negotiation stand.

The Senate passed a budget months ago.

The House refused to go to committee.

The GOP is not threating default.

That is the Dems propaganda and the mainstream news is going along right with it.
