America also can turn off the spigot to kill the Chinese economy, if China invades Taiwan. China cannot grow its economy without relying on the West. Taking Taiwan by force cannot offset economic losses of losing the trade with the West entirely. Therefore, it's not worth risking a war from the Chinese perspective. I guess a pro-China government will emerge in Taiwan in a distant future. Taiwan's conservatives are not against Beijing.

It is amusing that they Guomatang, the political heirs to Chiang Kai-Shek, are more pro-Beijing than the other political parties. They still cling to the notion of someday ruling all of China someday.

I've done business in many of them. Still not as reliable a partner as China.

Malaysia is completely in China's pocket.
So is Thailand, which relies on Chinese support through the Belt and Road initiative.
Cambodia has warm relations with China.

The Philippines are still dirt poor. They just don't have the infrastructure. Too bad, they are great people.
