GOP strategist: ?Reagan is dead. Accept it.? - Washington Times

Ford O’Connell, a former campaign worker for Sen. John McCain’s failed bid for the presidency in 2008, said in his newly released book that the Republican Party has been hit hard with “obsessive Reagan disorder,” an unhealthful state that is stymieing growth, The Hill reported.

His top advisement in the “Hail Mary: The 10-Step Playbook for Republican Recovery,” is “Ronald Reagan is dead. Accept it.”

Mr. O’Connell went on, The Hill reported: “The Reagan fixation is a drag on the future success of the GOP at the national level. It undermines the candidates because it becomes a crutch for their inability to articulate an actual agenda or a forward-looking vision.”

The spirit of America that Reagan thrived on is still very much alive in the Red States, but the GOP itself is likely very dead with parasites like this turd in charge.

RDS, Reagan Derangement Syndrome, is holding back the GOP and will continue to do so until abandoned.

Why shouldn't Republicans remain mired in the 1980s?

I don't usually agree with people who campaigned for John McCain, but I am to a degree here.

We need to stop lifting Reagan up as a standard. Reagan was a great President. But we are a new generation. We need to be even better than he was. I don't want a President to be the next Reagan. I want someone who can be an even better President than Reagan was. Instead of a Reagan Wannabe.

Let's look to the future and what we could do if we actually impliment conservative principles in government and life. Let's be fiscally responsible. Let's significantly lower the taxes and make them more fair for everyone. Let's teach personal responsibility and accountability to one another.

They are fairly low now, but if you indeed want to make the rich pay their fair share, we can increase the % paid by the upper tax brackets, sure.

When the GOP runs on Regan conservative rhetoric, like in 1972, 19080, 1984, 1988, 2000, 2004 it wins.

When the GOP runs on moderate rhetoric like 1976, 1992, 1996, 2008 and 2112 it loses.

The problem is not that the GOP needs to abandon Reagan principles but that it's leadership abandoned them ten years ago, at minimum, and now wants to comfortably purge all the Reaganite TPM folks from its leadership.

I hope they succeed. We need a new party that genuinely represents the American people and not the current duopoly that runs a rigged system.

Almost everyone is working until April to pay off their taxes. There is no reason we should have to work to support the government that much whether we are rich or poor.

We shouldn't even working 10% of our time for the government. And yet we are paying up to 30% for the Federal Government alone.

Just imagine how we could get this economy going if we were spending less time working for the government and more time working for ourselves and our families.

As long as the current political regime remains in power based on ever expanding political patronage systems in competition, our taxes and the bite of the government in every aspect of our private lives can only grow larger.

The system needs a revolution and a total board wipe.

Seems to me, that conservatives need to focus on actually being conservative in action instead of just rhetoric. This whole thing about being fiscally conservative and constitutional minded only appears to come up when LOLberals are in the driver seat. Otherwise they talk about conservative values and then proceed to act just like LOLberals.

The Tea party seems to be the result of this GOP complete failure in conservatism.

It was about time that someone told them that Reagan was dead. They think that he is still in the White House watching cartoons.

More sarcasm sans fact or reason.

Why don't you go start a stand up routine and leave the adults to talk in private, little punk?

JimCrowie, Internet tough guy. And he claims to be an adult with all his childish insults and attempts at humor.

I freely admit to using insults and humor, but I also bring facts and reason to the table in most of my posts, unlike the typical libtards like yourself.

So we have been working hard to get President Obama out of office and curbing the influence of his efforts to destroy this nation because we think that Reagan is still in the White House?

:cuckoo:

Curious that democrats don't ever proclaim that Wilson, FDR, Truman and so on are dead, and it's time to move on from progressivism.

So does that not tell you who's vision for America now controls the GOP elite?

These fraud RINOs got their power by playing lapdogs for the Democrats in Congress from FDR till 1994. But they had played that game so long they don't even remember what it means to actually run the show for their own world view. And in their heart of hearts, RINOs like McCain and Romney and McConnel are really FDR liberals who want to take a slower pace toward the cliff they prefer to not think about.

But the patronage system developed by Andrew Jackson teaming up Tamany Hall Democrats with rural farmers funded with government money and corruption, that system is finally reaching the exhaustion of its resources; the American tax payer. FDR expanded it some, but mostly the source of funding was expanded at the federal government level. LBJ shifted the vast majority of the patronage funding to the federal government and NIXON put the whole thing into high gear, expanding on what LBJ built.

But with each election the system has to expand in order for one party to defeat the other, and rope in larger and large slices of the electorate.

There is no fat left from tax payers, only the meat. As tax paying Americans begin to actually leave the country or drop off the grid and our economy implodes, our governments total receipts from that tax payer wealth is going to shrink faster and faster.

And when it can no longer pay off its patrons...then comes the end of the system.

I am not sure which will happen first; tax payers revolting or the Federal Reserve simply crashing into bankruptcy.

Why, that's just crazy talk! We can't expect a party to be consistent in its views and actually act on them while the majority party instead of just campaigning on them when they are the minority party.

They didn't even stop playing lapdog in 1994. All Gingrich ever was, was a big fat bag of neconservative hot air.
