Gunman kills self after deadly shooting in Australia

Australia did not have a high gun crime rate before the ban......they had very few mass public shootings before the ban
And they've had less since more restrictive laws were enforced. Firearms are not banned in Australia.

Wrong....I have listed the shootings... they have about the same level of gun violence as before the confiscation....and it is going up...they now have more guns in more criminal hands and their drive by shooting rate is going up.....all after the confiscation.

Another thread where loons pretend that laws are meant to stop all of anything. Odium was just saying the other day how proud he was that America hasnt had one traffic accident since the usage of Traffic lights were implemented
Liberals motto other than WE LIE should be CAN'T FIX STUPID. Now this clown is comparing cars to guns...amazing. Oh and yes GUN LAWS that BAN guns are meant to keep guns AWAY from people you moron.

Is this your way of pretending that laws CAN get rid of all of anything? By lashing out about cars and guns silly girl?

Australian gun confiscation did not work.....Australian gun ownership is now back to pre confiscation levels...and their gun violence rate is going up. Explain that please...

Laws dont stop everything

Their gun ownership rate is back to where it was before the confiscation.

Their gun crime rate is going up......

Explain that....
If that is the case you have just defeated your own argument.

Nope....their criminal sub culture is changing...just like it is changing in Europe and Britain. I have made the point that before, these countries had the gun crime rate America had in the 1950s into the early 60s.....then the criminal subculture changed......there were always guns, they just weren't used to commit murder. In the 1960s...criminals started using guns to murder people here....now it is happening in the other countries.....

No one said they did. You guys seem to think that imposing laws on people who do not break the law will lower the crime rate......

That is how dumb you guys are.

No laws were ever created for the law abiding citizens silly. Laws are for the small percentage of people who fuck it up for the rest of us.

2aguy keeps trying is laughable arguments, and knowledgeable people keep laughing at him.
Idiology is more important to him than reality.

Please explain this....

in 2012, 11.1 million Americans carried guns for self defense.....and our violent crime rate went down. Our gun murder rate went down. Our gun accident rate went down.

in 2013, 12.8 million Americans carried guns for self defense....and our violent crime rate went down again. Our gun murder rate went down again. Our gun accident rate went down again.

in 2014, 13 million Americans carried guns for self defense...and our violent crime rate went down again. Our gun murder rate went down again. Our gun accident rate went down again....

Since the 1990s......more Americans now own and carry guns for self defense....and our violent crime rate has kept going down, not up.......

How do you explain that? This is not about causation...that is another discussion.....this is how you explain your concept that more guns in the hands of normal, law abiding people is supposed to increase the violent crime rate and the gun murder rate....but actual situation is the opposite.

How is that possible with what you say should happen with mere access to guns?

No laws were ever created for the law abiding citizens silly. Laws are for the small percentage of people who fuck it up for the rest of us.

Nope....every gun law you guys want...registration, licensing gun owners and universal background checks...only effect normal gun owners...they are the only ones who will obey them.

Like all other laws.....criminals will only be punished when they are actually caught after they broke those laws.

So imposing those laws does not actually impact gun crime or gun murder since criminals ignore them....and normal gun owners who obey them don't use guns to commit crime or murder....

Yes they do and that`s why it`s so much safer there than here. The gun buy back was a huge success and I thank you for bringing this up.
Australia enacted one of the largest gun reforms ever nearly 2 decades ago — and gun deaths plummeted

Wrong.....they lie....they are using gun suicide to make that case....and their suicides simply changed methods.......

Their gun ownership rate is back to where it was before the gun confiscation....

Their gun crime rate is going up.........

Yeah...not such a great success.....you have to look to find the reality...

This article shows that as America bought more guns our crime rate dropped faster than Australias…and their other crimes stayed high….

Australians owning more guns...

NSW gun ownership figures show more than 850,000 firearms in private hands

There has been a dramatic rise in the number of registered guns across New South Wales, with the biggest rises in gun ownership in Sydney's most affluent suburbs, including Neutral Bay, Pyrmont and Sydney's CBD.

The latest figures obtained by the NSW Greens show there are now more than 850,000 firearms in private hands, which equates to one gun for every nine people. That is an almost 40 per cent rise since 2001.

New plan unveiled to tackle out-of-control gun violence

COMBATING gun crime in NSW remains the top priority of the state's police force, senior officers announced on Wednesday.

In the past 12 months, more than 9000 guns have been taken off NSW streets and 3352 people have been charged as part of ongoing investigations by Strike Force Raptor and Operations Apollo and Spartan.

Unveiling a new plan to tackle out-of-control gun violence in Sydney on Wednesday, NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said all three strike forces had been brought together to form Operation Talon.

"There is no single source of gun crime violence...guns have fallen into the hands of organised crime, outlaw motorcycle gangs, mid-level crime groups and petty thieves and the lines are often blurred," Mr Scipione said

"That's why it is so important to focus on all these aspects in a unified way...pulling our resources together under the one banner we have that opportunity."

Gun found every two days in Melbourne s red zone

Police are discovering guns in cars every two days in Melbourne's north-west, which has been dubbed the "red zone" by officers concerned about a growing gangster culture in the region.
The alarming figure, obtained from The Police Association, follows anecdotal and statistical evidence of a burgeoning gun culture among young men in the city's north-western fringe.
Police working in the large region, which includes Broadmeadows, Sunshine and Werribee, have reported:

  • Firearm-related incidents, such as drive-by shootings, every six days.
  • An increasing trend of children as young as 16 carrying guns.
  • Regularly finding guns in cars, including sawn-off shotguns and an automatic machine gun, during routine car intercepts.
  • Guns stolen from rural homes being used in violent crime in the north-west. Some 530 guns were stolen in rural Victoria in 2013.
It comes as the Crime Statistics Agency released figures on Thursday showing an almost threefold jump in firearm offences in the north-west over the past five years, from 581 in the year to March 2011 to 1332 in the 12 months to April 2015.
A similar trend was reported statewide, with firearm offences rising more than 50 per cent to 13,626.
The figures follow recent high-profile shootings in which two men have been killed - one in Keysborough, the other in Altona Meadows - and significant gun seizures by police. In March, an automatic machine gun was found during a car intercept in Sunbury, and in February, an M16 assault rifle and Thureon machine gun were seized in raids on homes in the city's west.

2014 Sydney hostage crisis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On 15–16 December 2014 a lone gunman, Man Haron Monis, held hostage ten customers and eight employees of a Lindt chocolate café located at Martin Placein Sydney, Australia. Police treated the event as a terrorist attack at the time[11][12] but Monis' motives have subsequently been debated.[13]

After a 16-hour standoff, a gunshot was heard from inside and police officers from the Tactical Operations Unitstormed the café. Hostage Tori Johnson was killed by Monis and hostage Katrina Dawson was killed by a police bullet ricochet in the subsequent raid. Monis was also killed. Three other hostages and a police officer were injured by police gunfire during the raid.[1][14][15]

Teen's Slaying Of Australian Police Worker 'Linked To Terror'

he 15-year-old, who is of Iraqi-Kurdish background and was born in Iran, shot a New South Wales police finance worker with a handgun at close range as the man left work in the western Sydney suburb of Parramatta on Friday, police Commissioner Andrew Scipione (pictured right above, alongside state Premier Mike Baird) said. The teen then fired at responding officers, who shot and killed him, Scipione said.

Year of the gun: Sydney in grip of upswing in shooting crime

Another night, another drive-by killing. Sydney is effortlessly maintaining its reputation as the national capital of things that go bang in the night.

Late on Monday when many people were watching Please Marry My Boy, Bassil Hijazi, 18, was executed in a public car park in Bexley. Two weeks before, he had been shot in the neck when assailants had rained bullets on his car. He had links with the Comanchero bikie gang.

Meanwhile, minutes before on Monday night, Vasko Boskovski, 35, was shot to death in nearby Earlwood. The businessman was also known to police.

Nope....every gun law you guys want...registration, licensing gun owners and universal background checks...only effect normal gun owners...they are the only ones who will obey them.

Thats all laws, since law breakers dont care about laws.

Like all other laws.....criminals will only be punished when they are actually caught after they broke those laws.

So imposing those laws does not actually impact gun crime or gun murder since criminals ignore them....and normal gun owners who obey them don't use guns to commit crime or murder....

Gun laws do have an impact....Just like other laws, criminals ignore them too, thats why they are criminals. Normal law abinding people always have to pay for the law breakers. Thats why I cant bar-b-que in a forest. All because some dummy burned down a forest and now I have to pay for it

And of course here is some research to show you guys are wrong...

http://c8.nrostatic.com/sites/default/files/Lee and Suardi 2008.pdf

Abstract:

The 1996-97 National Firearms Agreement (NFA) in Australia introduced strict gun laws, primarily as a reaction to the mass shooting in Port Arthur, Tasmania in 1996, where 35 people were killed. Despite the fact that several researchers using the same data have examined the impact of the NFA on firearm deaths, a consensus does not appear to have been reached. In this paper, we re-analyze the same data on firearm deaths used in previous research, using tests for unknown structural breaks as a means to identifying impacts of the NFA.

The results of these tests suggest that the NFA did not have any large effects on reducing firearm homicide or suicide rates.

This is the problem.....you guys impose gun laws that you say will keep guns out of the hands of criminals...that is what you guys say.....and not one of the laws you have created or want to add does this. Background checks, gun registration, and licensing gun owners are what you guys wanted and still want.....and they do nothing to stop criminals or mass shooters from getting guns.

The gun laws already in place...the ones that state you cannot use a gun to commit a crime and that state that felons cannot own or carry a gun.....already did everything you say you want out of a gun law...but that wasn't enough....you knew that criminals still got guns and only stopped using them when they were captured...so thinking like 12 year olds...you thought...hey...we will force people to get a background check before they buy a gun....

Normal gun owners got background checks, criminals did not....the already existing laws did work....background checks were pointless for what you said they would do.

dittos gun registration..which actual criminals do not have to do...via Haynes v. United STates...so only normal, law abiding gun owners will ever have to register their guns...thus making your efforts on that front pointless....

Dittos licensing gun owners....felons already cannot own or carry guns......so they can't get a license in the first place, so only non criminals would get a license...thus making that effort pointless as well....

Tell me again how you think your laws should work....

No laws will keep guns out the hands of criminals. The only thing a law can do is make it harder for a criminal to be able to get them. You only want gun laws to do something no other laws can do, which is totally reasonable.
