Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Friday laughed off Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) recent attempt to claim credit for economic growth, arguing that Democratic policies helped the recovery despite overwhelming Republican obstruction since the beginning of the Obama presidency.

"If [Republicans] had cooperated with us even a little bit, the economy would have been even stronger than it is now," Reid said on NPR, his first public interview since an exercise accident left the Nevada Democrat bedridden with broken bones in the face as well as several broken ribs. "Think where the economy would be, if we didn't have programs like Cash for Clunkers and the bailout of Detroit," Reid said, referring to parts to the stimulus legislation passed early in the recession.

Reid further cited Wall Street reform legislation known as Dodd-Frank, the health insurance reform effort under the Affordable Care Act, FDA regulation of tobacco, and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, as just a few Democratic successes in the past six years that have contributed to a growing economic recovery -- highlighted Friday by the latest employment reports showing 252,000 jobs gained in the month of December. He argued that Republicans had actually hurt the economy by blocking student loan reform and hikes in the minimum wage.

"We've done well with the economy. Is it perfect? Not a chance. We have ways to go," Reid added.

It's hilarious that obstructionist McConnell would have the balls to even bring up the subject. Jon Stewart also finds McConnell's claims hilarious.

I'm sure McConnell laughed at Harry too when he got the shit kicked out of him the other day. And let's all sit up and take notice that Jon Stewart finds it funny too. He's such an important figure in today's politics.

Empirical Proof Of The Giant Con

I want to continue on with my recent focus on the giant con and if you’ve been reading my work lately you’ll certainly know what that is. However, for those of you not familiar with the giant con, it is the idea that our economy is growing when, in fact, it hasn’t had growth in decades with the exception of the late 1990?s. In a recent article I wrote for the benefit of Steve Liesman, I showed that the giant con is entirely a function of debt. I explain why debt is actually a net negative given real interest rates and I strip out debt from GDP to show that GDP has actually been contracting for some time. Recently I’ve been I looking for other ways to prove that the giant con is truly happening. But let’s just have a quick look at what real GDP adjusted for Debt would like. We see in the past 40 years the only period of real GDP growth was between 1996 and 2000 and has collapsed since early 2007 to date.

You will note that there was little, if any recovery until the GOP took control of the House. You will further note that all attempts by the House to effect recovery were stymied by Reid the obstructionist.

BUT, the GOP controls all of Congress now. They will continue to try to effect recovery, but the obstructionist, barack obama has vowed to veto their legislation.

You are truly brainwashed.....that is too funny.................

The new Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, suggested earlier today that the Republican Party deserves credit for recent data showing that the economic recovery has picked up speed. As ridiculous as that statement is, at least it is intellectually consistent with the party’s past statements. After the financial crisis, Republicans said President Obama had hurt the economy by (occasionally) criticizing Wall Street bankers for their misdeeds. Now, Mr. McConnell is claiming credit for a recovery based solely on the fact that Republicans have just taken control of both houses of Congress, even though the year has barely begun and they have not yet passed any bills.

Funny how the economy finally found its legs after sequestration took hold, you know the thing the commiecrats have been trying to undo since it took effect. There was some lag but that is to be expected and it helped reduce the deficit, you know, the reductions the commiecrats are claiming credit for. Prince harry is proving himself to be just as delusional and senile as always, Nevada needs to retire him.

Who would take credit for this economy since it's still in the hole? We won't see any real recovery unless and not until after the energy prices stay low, a development in complete contrast to and in spite of any democrat policies or agendas.

Harry Reid's brain isn't functioning well in the aftermath of his propositioning a red-neck truck driver to give him a blow job in a Utah interstate rest area. The democrats aren't responsible for an improving economy. They never have been.

Obstructionism must have worked, or was the left lying about that?

Democrats always want to take credit when republicans take over the house or senate and stop them same thing during bill Clinton years

That is pretty funny, he wasn't even sure he was going to get his seat back a year ago. Everyone hated McConnell.

To think Lil' Mitch is different from Dirty Harry, is to not think.

They are both laughing at how easy it is to dupe the American people.

For the life of me never could understand liberals will never under stand there is 3 branches Of government well 4 if you count the Supremes

Anything they have even tried to do had nothing to do with helping the economy because they didn't want Obama to get credit. Anything they will try to do will fail because Obama has a veto pen waiting for anything having to do with Keystone, Healthcare or anything he doesn't feel is good for America.

They've been castrated so relax and watch them writhe.

The fact that both Lil' Mitch and Dirty Harry are long serving senators, speaks volumes about how stupid American voters are. Both men are disgusting opportunists, blatant liars, and progressive elitist statists.

I really have to wonder why you seem to think that Obama is all knowing. That only he, and not the elected Congress, knows what is right for the country. Obama said that elections have consequences, seems like even he doesn't believe his BS.

Obama was elected too if you remember. He is not going to sit back and watch them undo everything he has tried to do. They were a do nothing congress and now that they have control, who knows what they are going to try and do for the wealthiest Americans. They have a fight on their hands.

Yes there are three branches. We are aware.

Mitch and Harry are both very good at their craft. They understand how to do this and they work hard. The other day when all those judges were confirmed because Ted Cruz interrupted the business of congress? Harry Reid jumped on that and went to work.

Right there was the difference between intelligent legislators and a big dumb teaparty idiot.
