I haven't checked snopes on it. But true or false, let's not overlook important reality.
The War against Japan, on the Pacific & Pacific islands was about as bad as War gets.

Regardless of how MacArthur may have worded it, he had rational reason for feeling that way.

But however distasteful, Truman was obliged by his station to take the high road.

iirc Truman was the most recent U.S. president to serve, without a college degree. I think he did pretty well.

Most economies today are a mixture of socialism and capitalism. Governments and economies are not static, however, they are constantly changing, too fast for some and not fast enough for others. So far conservatives have only managed to slow down the changes, nor stop them or even go back to the 1900's.
What changes will take place in our economy in the next 100 years, in our government? To a great extent we can control the direction of some of those changes and some will try.

There are some problems with it in England. It seems to be working pretty well in Canada.
It's a smashing success in parts of China. And though China has its share of problems, those problems are related more to totalitarianism than to socialism. They are not the same. And the proof they are not the same is the enormous success socialism in places like Denmark, which is reported to have the highest "happiness quotient" in the world.

I'm not a socialist. The U.S. system has problems. But I'm looking forward to today's two candidate events at 5M/ET & 9M/ET on FOX.
But I simply lack the intellectual wherewithal to conflate my own personal preference, with objective reality.
