They are using their "power of the purse" to fund what they want to fund. Obama and the Senate dems can accept that, and then try to get them voted out of office in 2014 if they so choose.

Essentially, you're right... but it really comes down to just one, doesn't it?

This shutdown ends anytime John Boehner wants it to. All he has to do is hold a vote on a clean CR. If he's right, and 218 votes for it aren't there, then he's proven his point, and, instantly, the burden shifts to President Obama and the Democrats. If he's wrong, and the votes are they, he looks like a fool, but the government reopens, and, in a few weeks, hardly will anyone will care what he looked like in October.

He's afraid of losing his Speakership in a "coup" led by the Tea Partiers. I guess he never learned how to say the words that Obama, clearly, said to himself when he decided Obamacare was worth fighting for:

"This is more important than re-election."

Pres. Obama is "refusing to negotiate" WHAT? The only thing these Tea Party Republicans want to "negotiate" is a repeal of the AHCA - which, last time I looked, is the fucking LAW OF THE LAND. If Obama won't agree to that, then these same Tea Party scum bags will plunge our country into debt. That looks, for all the world to me, like extortion - not an attempt to "negotiate."
