How do you keep motivated to keep participating here?

I try to post a variety of topics to break the monotony but even then tards come in with the usual bullshit.
Sometimes it just feels like a worn out relationship where you both know it's over but the "comfort zone" keeps you reluctantly plowing along.
Everything is Trump/Russia regardless of the topic. Or it's all socialist/ism. I'm just as guilty of course but I think we need marriage counseling....

I post on USMB for therapy. Among other vocations I am a writer. I spend upwards of twelve to fifteen hours writing fiction day in, day out. Debating with like and opposite minded fellow assholes for a couple of hours each day helps get me warmed up for the inevitable writing slog. Used to be that USMB coupled with copious White Russians would get me set for a day of editing and adding to my current work in progress, be it a short story or novel. But since the pandemic began I've had to add healthy doses of tree-kicking and bourbon to the mix just to cope. Some days, admittedly, I can't take as much of USMB as I used to. Other days this place is required psychological maintenance.
Do you have published work? Scripts for video games or papers?

Your expectations are way way too high.
You need to keep your expectations of a public forum, so low, that you could hardly even trip over them.

When I post something, I do so, because I want to, and I alone enjoy it.
I have expectation of anything in return except mocking and childish insults.
If I get anything even remotely bordering on intelligence, it's a pleasant surprise.

Ya...that's my problem too....I find if I disconnect from this place more it's better for my mental well being. Or...if I just spend more time in places like music.

Yes, I know a lot of folks don't like my humor at times, that was out of random, to say the least. But I do like being here to read posts; whether I agree with the OP or not. This place is much better than I used to be on (other sites). Music is always good! But my taste for music isn't everyone's "cup of tea".

Just remember to treat the fair people fairly, the reasonable people reasonably, the intelligent people intelligently, the kind people kindly, and all the adolescent leftist a-holes with which it is impossible to carry on even a 6th grade conversation with as dog crap to be hammered on relentlessly! ALWAYS---- beat them at their own game by reflecting back what they are and being WORSE about it than they ever could!

Two published novels, which I can't post links to here, as I've been a bit politically incorrect on USMB, to say the least. However, a short horror story of mine was recently published in issue #3 of Sanitarium Magazine. If you read the entire magazine you will have read one of my stories. With cancel culture in full swing I can't take the risk of outing myself so to speak. On Twitter I try to blend in and play nice. USMB is my private (as much as can be) outlet for political raving.

Maybe once every couple of months someone drops the bullshit and has a real conversation. Seriously.

Cool

Even though we 99% disagree on most stuff, I agree on this and don't know. I like other topics. Be nice to move on. Be really nice to have a discussion that didn't involve politicians, bodily functions, and bodily secretions combined in biologically challenging ways.
I love when someone comes up with a thread on ancient discoveries or a really good Adventures with TN in the Kitchen thread.

How do you keep motivated to keep participating here?

Easy. Our resident Democrats/Progressives/Communists provide an endless parade of laughter and intellectual mayhem, especially the (apparent) younger ones who know almost nothing about anything of importance.

Great coffee break entertainment.

Watching this now. If you like ancient history I strongly suggest you sub to this guy. He also has a new space channel but seldom uploads to it.

Other noteworthy channels...

General history

Mostly ancient Egypt

Great for current events in space although a bit odd

Also a bit out there but some great footage of ancient sites

https://youtu.be/A3AauYnfXjU
Great source for current events that are viewable in the night sky as well as theoretical space topics

https://youtu.be/PDUeJ13Fegg
A bit wacky, claims to be a Dr (scientific?) And has published books. Some weird videos but some really thought provoking ones too.

EXCELLENT space channel

Gobekli Tepe's pillars: new developments
Another EXCELLENT channel that combines ancient sites and astronomy. He is a professor with peer reviewed published scientific papers.

Exploring The "Pyramid Builders' Village" And The Wall Of The Crows In Egypt
Another EXCELLENT channel and he also has worldwide tours to most ancient historical sites.

Those are the channels that I watch every day. Not all of them of course but plenty of thought provoking content on a regular basis.

I don't try. When it no longer holds anything for me I'll leave... Again. I'll come back if I feel it'll benefit me in some way.

I am using this place to procrastinate at the moment. I have more house rehab to do than I really want to do. I use to love investing in real estate and fixing houses. Now I am just over it. I am in to boats and water now. I need to fix these properties, sell them and get out of it and out of this city and back on the water.

A super cool video of discoveries at the Sphinx dating back several hundred years. I don't know the author at all.

Zahee Hawass is a criminal and a con man so ANYTING you have seen or heard from him on the msm is likely complete bullshit.

Some of us seek information when we post on public forums.

People often disagree, and violently so, but we still seek information on the destruction and ruination that has been inflicted on our real day-to-day lives, working careers, and relationships with families and loved ones by such vicious lies and slander.

I used to care more.

A lot more.

USMB is probably a big part of why I now care a lot less.

Here, we have a great place to bring issues to each other and discuss them in an open, objective, informative and intellectually honest way. . .

Instead, the site is driven by how many new threads can be started, how many "likes" a member can get and trolling drive by pot shots by too many members who have ZERO interest in actually engaging a productive conversation about ANYTHING.

The site still holds promise but I doubt that I will ever see it in my few remaining years.

Because Im OLD !...
I go between here and Linux forums. I have no life !
