Tell me about it. I had to have my septic tank pump replaced last month: $650 bucks parts and labor it cost. That wasn't something I would have tried to tackle, se we had to have a registered plumber do it.

A week later, the damned septic tank float switch went out. That's the float in there that turns the pump on and off. I can replace that, it looks pretty easy for about $100.

Then I replaced the cartridge in the shower valve. After 20 years, the shower would leak and wouldn't get very hot. $20 for the tool to do it and the cartridge cost us $56. It was a bitch to get that thing out, but now it works like a new shower.

Next thing is gonna be a new roof. The shingles are 20 years old and they're melting, Plus I've has two trees fall on the roof and had to cut them up. I got an estimate from an Amish roofer who does pretty good work: $6,800.

We decided we might as well take advantage of this socialist government and get a single family housing repair grant from the USDA Rural Development program or if not, a zero-percent interest loan from them.
