I'm a republican and all for capitalism but something isn't right here

If coaches are getting that much money, it's because LSU is making a hell of a lot more off their football program.

A lot of money that gets plowed back into academic programs and scholarships that don't make money for the university .

But... the football program only makes money if they win. Having the right coach is vital for that and that kind of talent costs money.

If you don't believe me, you can offer to coach the team for $1 a year and see if they don't jump at your offer.

Don't be too upset if they reject your off to save them $100 million.

Good, they don't need a football team. It's a school. Teach kids what they need to know to succeed in life. If the coach doesn't want to do it for the love of football, fuck it.

How can they make money off of a coach that hasn't coached a single game yet? What is the justification for 95 million for a coach that has showed NO ability as of yet to win anything?

The people paying him don't need to justify their decision to you. They pay the coaches so much because they're deemed very valuable.

The school exists because the football team pays for it. They make a lot more off football than they do from tuition and alumni donations.
For somebody that supports capitalism he sure seems to know dick about how it functions.

I was watching the news the other day about LSU getting rid of their head coach. He received a 17 MILLION DOLLAR buyout package for his remaining contract. They then went on to explain that the new coach signed a 10 year 95 MILLION DOLLAR contract. The tuition for in state for LSU is almost twelve thousand dollars! Out of state is almost THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!

Now I think that certainly the coach of a big school like this should make a hell of a living wage, but 17 million dollars to GET RID of a coach and 95 MILLION dollars for a new one I feel is a bit much. Meanwhile, you've got poor college students working 2 and 3 jobs trying to pay tuition so these 2 people can receive over 100 MILLION DOLLARS between them. For doing nothing more than coaching a football team, a team that is not necessary to the academic success of the school.

I went to college, I know how hard it is. This just isn't right to me. I'm sorry. Of course its not just LSU, it's all these major league colleges. And a degree from LSU won't make you any more money than one from a technical college where you are trained in a trade and can immediately go to work in that trade.

I mean how much could tuition be reduced for each student if coach O would have received 100,000 instead of 17 million and the new coach make 500,000 a year instead of 9.5 million?
If you played a sport and someone offered you millions, you would be an utter retard not to take it.

Now, with any sport especially football in the UK, I think the retards are the stupids that part with lots of money to watch the sports, which in turns funds these payouts and wages. But that's the retard's prerogative, and as long as people can exercise their prerogative to part with loads of money to watch a sporting event without harming others, what's your fucking point apart from, are you having a period?

To be fair, no one who supports Socialism has the slightest idea how it's supposed to work...

You made one mistake in your diatribe. The coaches are not paid from student tuition. They get paid from the ticket sales, licensing agreements, etc. For example, the cheapest ticket for the Iron Bowl at Auburn this year, in the nosebleed section was $300. If you multiply even the lowest ticket price times 87, 451 seats is $26 million dollars. Our head coaches salary is $5 million per year.

Ah, so that's why players don't even get paid minimum wage?
Minimum wage?

Last I looked, a college degree in some of these prestigious schools is upwards of 60,000 per year. They are attending the college on a full-ride scholarship. So, they are getting the equivalent of 60k a year.

Also being on the team is a free pass to glory and the pussy palace. Let me shed a tear for these poor athletes. Give me a fucking break.

To be accurate, NCAA football FBS schools have 85 scholarships but may have a much higher number of players on the team, the remainder without scholarships.

Gotta have that goddamn football.

No, they don't get paid because by definition they are amateur athletes and can't get paid. Doesn't stop boosters from giving them cars and stuff, though. It's a vestige of the old system where they are supposed to compete for reasons other than getting paid. If we pay them, we might as well turn colleges into farm leagues for the majors, just like baseball has.

Endorsement deals have made your comments obsolete. If a booster gave them a car, and anyone knew, it would impact the athlete's eligibility. Our quarterback got an endorsement deal from Milo's tea. Our rival university boycotted them.
