I've been writing in Ralph Nader for a couple of decades now; I don't know why he never got elected because of that ...

Independents will get their scarce campaign cash eaten up by the endless barrage of ballot challenges from whichever deep pockets' 'Party' considers the a threat to their vote counts. that's the way elections work in the U.S., and most voters are very happy with that or it wouldn't be that way. They simply won't appear on many ballots at all, so they don't exist for many voters.

Being a big noise on the innernutz isn't the same as being one in real life; most people don't spend their time bothering with politics, much less message board forums.
