A White couple from West Virginia is accused of locking their adopted Black children in a barn on their property and forcing them to work in a case that authorities allege was fueled by racism, according to court documents cited by multiple news outlets.
Donald Ray Lantz, 63, and Jeanne Kay Whitefeather, 62, were initially arrested in October 2023 and now face new charges, including human trafficking of a minor child, use of a minor child in forced labor, and child neglect creating substantial risk of serious bodily injury or death, West Virginia MetroNews reported.
The arrests of Lantz and Whitefeather came after a neighbor called Child Protective Services, alleging that two teenagers were being locked in a shed at the couple’s home in Sissonville, according to court documents obtained by WCHS-TV. Other neighbors also claimed the children were “forced to perform farm labor and were not permitted inside the residence,” per the documents.
According to the court filing, deputies who responded to the scene alleged they saw deplorable conditions, saying the two children were locked in the shed with a portable toilet and no running water, according to an indictment cited by West Virginia MetroNews. The children told investigators they were also forced to sleep on the floor and had been locked in there for about 12 hours, per the indictment.
Now what should be done with these 2 racist POS?
I wonder how many cases of this kind of abuse are really going on.
