Officials said the FBI is trying to identify the people behind breaches of the Democratic National Committee’s computer systems.

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 18 (Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation is pursuing at least three separate probes relating to alleged Russian hacking of the U.S. presidential elections, according to five current and former government officials with direct knowledge of the situation.

While the fact that the FBI is investigating had been reported previously by the New York Times and other media, these officials shed new light on both the precise number of inquires and their focus.

The FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, which runs many cyber security investigations, is trying to identify the people behind breaches of the Democratic National Committee’s computer systems, the officials said. Those breaches, in 2015 and the first half of 2016, exposed the internal communications of party officials as the Democratic nominating convention got underway and helped undermine support for Hillary Clinton.

The Pittsburgh case has progressed furthest, but Justice Department officials in Washington believe there is not enough clear evidence yet for an indictment, two of the sources said.

Meanwhile the bureau’s San Francisco office is trying to identify the people who called themselves “Guccifer 2” and posted emails stolen from Clinton campaign manager John Podesta’s account, the sources said. Those emails contained details about fundraising by the Clinton Foundation and other topics.

Beyond the two FBI field offices, FBI counterintelligence agents based in Washington are pursuing leads from informants and foreign communications intercepts, two of the people said.

This counterintelligence inquiry includes but is not limited to examination of financial transactions by Russian individuals and companies who are believed to have links to Trump associates. The transactions under scrutiny involve investments by Russians in overseas entities that appear to have been undertaken through middlemen and front companies, two people briefed on the probe said.

Reuters could not confirm which entities and individuals were under scrutiny.

Comey owes Hillary and the American people clean, honest, non-partisan, and thorough investigations! Let's hope he delivers! Hopefully both chambers of Congress will also do their investigations in a similar manner!

The DNC was hacked, not the entire election.

You poor precious special snowflakes are going to have to come to terms with the fact that your lying, cheating, hateful, hopelessly corrupt, and completely unlikeable bitch on wheels candidate lost because she is a lying, cheating, hateful, hopelessly corrupt, and completely unlikeable bitch on wheels.

Game over. Move on.

Funny how they don't know the identity of the individuals who did the attacks, yet can still claim "Russia hacked the election".

They keep falsely saying that the election was hacked to reinforce the false leftist narrative that Trump is illegitimate. Reporting false narratives is fake news.

Every time they attempt to undermine Trump's legitimacy they are harming our republic, its credibility, authority, and the very fundamental notion of having respect for the rule of law.

Trump has legitimate gripes with the media. The American people have legitimate gripes with the media.

Yeah, that is funny if you can't comprehend basic stuff that has already been widely reported from 17 national intelligence agencies.

There is still no proof that Russia hacked anybody that has been made public. Rather, there have only been reports from government agencies stating conclusions that Russia hacked the DNC and attempted to hack the RNC. They have not published the facts upon which they base these conclusions. Maybe they cannot. But nobody has said they have such facts, only statements indicating that their conclusions are based on evidence that is circumstantial at best.

In other words, our government does not know who hacked what.

Our government has not released any evidence that Russia hacked anybody or any organization related to the American elections. Wikileaks says the hacked info did not come from Russian sources. Maybe they don't know the genuine sources, or maybe they do.

The only fact we have is that the American government is telling us that Russia hacked us. That gov constructed its case under the Obama leadership, making its claims somewhat dubious at best.

Yeah, that is funny if you can't comprehend basic stuff that has already been widely reported from 17 national intelligence agencies.

So in other words you have no clue how they can both not know who did it and be certain it's the Russians.

It's sometimes difficult when multiple people may have access to the same computer or IP address. They're working on it...

Funny how those "17 national intelligence agencies" never came up with any evidence, like the FBI did when Sony was hacked by North Korea.

Did they mysteriously know it was the Russians without being able to pinpoint the individuals or locations from which the "attacks" came from?

Duh, yes they knew it was the Russians. BTW, don't you think Russian cyber-terrorists would be a little more sophisticated than North Korean.

So sophisticated that there are no logs of the events happening? Nope.

Logs? What logs? Please provide "credible" proof that can be verified as factual.

That's what I am asking for. Where are the logs? Why haven't hey been released?
