I guess ps 55 is about ahitholphel, Bathsheba’s grandfather
I thought, ya know David you’re not in a position to be passing judgement

When our grand-, grand-, grand- ... grandfather sang this, he was convinced true enemies and wrong friends were all around him. He lived in a plausible fear of a violent death. But he decided not to be as bloodthirsty and deceitful as this dangerous persons were. He decided to trust in god.

Reads to me as an allegory on the general political situation of the northern kingdom of the divided monarchy, a sort of lament/prayer. If it is indeed authored by David, the Elohist nature of that set of Psalms might indicate he is using the 'Royal I' and not the personal 'I', whether it was written when he was king or Saul's bard either one.

It's seems to be fairly complex in its allusions, traditions, and motives, so I personally don't put it in the category of a mere personal lament. It's trying to make a greater statement than whining and self-pity..
