Is gerrymandering really that bad?

Follow Iowa's and California's examples. Have the judicial branch draw the maps and follow strict guidelines:

The only information taken into account when drawing the maps is population count

Only so many artificial "bends" in each district (not including state borders)

Try to divide county lines as little as possible.

ALSO: No more intentional majority-minority districts

Ah, the courts because they aren't partisan! LOL, sure they aren't...

The courts are a heck of a lot less partisan then the state legislatures, which is profoundly stupid to have the state legislatures draw the maps anyway...it's like having six year olds divide up a jar of cookies fairly.

Also, as noted, it's not just giving the courts a free for all, there are simple guidelines to follow that would dramatically improve the current situation.

In what possible way are the courts "less partisan?"

It's part of the system and it is subject to judicial review so what's the problem? If whining was illegal the entire democrat party would be in jail.

Is gerrymandering really that bad is obviously a silly question. Yes, it is bad.

ok, how do you divide the districts?

not a bad idea. CA, however, does not use the judicial branch to draw district lines, it uses a 14 member citizen panel.

Yes, gerrymandering is THAT BAD. That's how North Carolina got so fucked up.

And....It's ubiquitous to the nation.

Umm...let's see...they aren't elected officials from the partisan parties???

You weren't elected, but you're completely partisan. Most people in this country are either Republican and Democrat. I say that as someone who is neither. Where do they get these non-partisan judges, alpha century?

Besides, you look at the courts, and they are clearly partisan. You just want liberals pretending to be non-partisan to do it.

Actually most people are independent.

However you are a good example of someone who really isn't independent, by your posting history it is laughably easy to judge you as a conservative, and most likely votes Republican.

Just appointed by them. That doesn't garner any loyalty, does it?

A more ignorant statement couldn't be made.

Most people will say they are independent, but in fact, they are lemmings. Witness the Democrat party and their base, who would vote democrat even as one of them were skinning THEIR child over a fire.
