He (trump) “has spent the past year saying that he is the only American president who could bring Gershkovich home and that if he is reelected Putin would agree to freeing the reporter as a personal favor.”

But there was no reason to wait for a possible trump reelection. After negotiations with Putin, President Joe Biden secured the release of Evan Gershkovich, ex-Marine Paul Whelan, and twenty-two other detainees.
