Is the GOP intentionally preventing a recovery?

And you can't figure out the insanity of us defending other nations for free, fighting wars we don't need to fight, involving ourselves in foreign affairs we don't need to be involved with,

all at horrific costs, all while back here we can't even fix roads or bridges, or care for the sick and the needy, etc., etc.

You don't get that? How can you not get that?

Defense spending is singlehandedly destroying this nation and it's been doing so for 60 years.

They don't get it. They think that extra drone or missile makes us stronger. Yes, it surprises me too.

But at least we killed OBL. For that I am eternally grateful. I think that made us look very strong. No BS about the president...he just went and got it done.

Hate to burst your bubble but the only thing he "went and got done" was a stroll to the situation room and a voiced word""go""

Any monkey could have been trained for that

HAHAHAHAHA!!! And in 7 yrs your monkey never got to do it, did he? HAHAHAHAHA!!

It must really gall you.

My sister has been collecting SSDI for over 20 years, and she never paid more than $100 in FICA taxes.
SSDI is Social Security disability insurance, one is eligible if he works ten years or more on a payroll.

SSI is Federal disability insurance for those who are disabled and have paid less then ten years into the system, this is likely your sister’s program.

Schumer's conspiracy theory: GOP sabotaging recovery | David Freddoso | Beltway Confidential | Washington Examiner

The evidence suggests Schumer's on to something. The House of Representatives has offered no debate on the issue of unemployment and has passed only 18 bills since taking control in January. 15 of those bills were passed to name federal buildings after someone. This do-nothing congress sees no urgency as millions of Americans are out of work, work one or two or three part time jobs simply to pay rent or the morgage on a home underwater.

The GOP leadership in both houses of congress has opposed all efforts by the president, and even turned down an offer by President Obama to reduce the payroll tax for businees. It seems ideology is only an excuse, the real reason is their lust for power.
Yes, yes they are.

The People decide what the government can and can't do.
We are a Republic, not a democracy. At least, that was the original goal. The founders were keenly aware that the treasury would be coveted.

When people talk about "taxing the rich", all they are saying is that they want the government to give them an even less percentage of what they feel the rich deserve. You can twist it any way you want, but the bottom line is that the government has the power to decide what you are allowed to keep. Perhaps that is how you want it. You would not be the first.

Just think about it. Contemplate what I am saying without a knee-jerk reaction. The government has become this entity that determines what ratio of money they will let you keep. They allow us whatever they determine once they have taken their share. They determine what that share is. If you believe that people are somehow making that determination, you are not being honest with the reality of the matter.

The government grows, it takes more, it gives you what it wants to give you.

What is the limit? At what point of the government keeping your money would you be outraged?

And the government just gets bigger and bigger, and layers itself in duplication and a web so intricate that not a person alive could figure out how to begin to address what went wrong.

The government owns everything. It gives you what it deems your fair share.

We are the government, and we get the government we deserve. That's the principle behind the right of the people to elect and recall their representatives. The last election demonstrated without a doubt the genius of the framers, as President Lincoln pointed out clearly so long ago, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time."

Not all the people are fooled by the radical elements which today dominate the Republican Party; their goal is clear and their methods no different than other demagogues who preceded them over the centuries. Clever pharases and lies repeated over and over, calls of "Socialism and "Marxism" and hate and fear mongering eventually get old and lose power over the people who cannot be fooled. A party which panders to the hoi polloi yet represents only the rich and powerful cannot stand for long. Enjoy it while you can, fools, for the pendulum never defies gravity.

I guess I was lucky. I first became involved with politics during the ERA years and although we didn't win that particular issue, it gave me a good overview of how I was a part of my government.

I was also lucky to go to college in my 30's at a time when the Student Revolutionary Brigade still had some membership and I have the experience of arguments and discussions about communism and socialism. I suppose it would have been easy to just call them names, like commie for example, because they were commies. LOL But instead I spent time finding out about them. It was then that I realized that communism didn't stand a chance here in America. It has really puzzled me when people have called me a commie when it was so obvious that I was not one. Of course then I realized that the people doing the name calling had absolutely no idea what they were talking about.

So the point I am getting at is that we are dealing with people that are just ignorant to the bone. Astoundingly ignorant. But what is really sad is that they are not just ignorant but also don't feel any connection to the government that they should be proud of.

You're right, the pendulum will go back. Let's hope we can stop the hatred and anger, that sometimes worries me. Then I read a post like yours and feel much better. Thank you.

Thank you, I don't think I had that clear in my mind.

I absolutely understand your argument and have used it myself many times as a rationale for why the rich should pay more and the poor should pay less.

I think we're on the same side here.

My point earlier was merely to counter the argument that wealthy people "pay 35% in taxes" which is not true.

hummmm, my stock options are taxed at the following rate-

Fed tax- 25%
Medicare 1.45%
Soc sec- 4.20%
CA state- 10.23%
CASDI- 1.2%

Total- 42.08

:eusa_whistle:

That sounds like short term capital gains and/or ordinary dividends, which of course, was not what I was referring to.

oh so you're taking straight income?

my marginal rate was 38 fucking % last year.

Of course they are.

The GOP hates Obama. They hate liberals. In fact, they hate America. They hate the middle class and poor people. Heck, they hate the moderately wealthy. They also hate blacks, wimmin, Hispanics, the environment, clean air and water, anything not made out of chemicals or consumes more than 10 mpg, science, organic food, every Muslim on the planet and Santa Claus. They exist only to make the extreme rich extremely richer. So they are deliberately trying to sabotage the country so they can seize power and sell the middle class and poor into slavery to corporations and move them all to China.

Actually, it's a "mixed message". They say the opposite of their policies. You just listed their policies. However they were designed, it's what they actually do that's important.

They say they are for science, yet want to teach the occult, which is clearly anti science.

They say they are for clean air and clean water, yet their most popular nominee for president wants to end the EPA.

They say they are for jobs. Elected candidates that ran on a "jobs" platform. But once in office, did nothing for jobs. In fact their policies only make the economy worse.

It's clear, their policies do all those things because they don't know how to "think things through". They don't understand "unintended consequence".

The ONLY person that seems determined NOT to create in any private sector jobs in this country is Barack Obama. He's fine with creating federal government jobs though--

Good find! But that has nothing to do with the screenshot that they also are using...you know, the one from the comedy bit on Real Time With Bill Maher.

But that video is very good !

hey if Bill was slamming Oprah....on that day me and him agreed on something.....

Well let's see. You earned the money, the government has the power to take it by force. You don't see that as an equal moral claim?
Where did you earn the money? Here.

How does that entitle the government to take it?

if they make the money here,in this Country.....yea they should have to pay taxes on it like everyone else....NO fucking Loopholes.....just to get out of paying any taxes at all....im not against ways to invest that will make it so you pay as little as possible.....but your still paying something.....

They are safe only because of the U.S. military.

You still haven't explained how the government is entitled to take my money. It's a moral question. I know that makes it difficult for a lib to answer.

My sister has been collecting SSDI for over 20 years, and she never paid more than $100 in FICA taxes.

Your claims are bullshit.

Your ignorance is showing. SSDI is not part of the retirement program and you do not have to work to collect. This is the program they use for disabled children.

Who cares what the label on the cookie jar is? The fact is that my FICA taxes pay for this boondoggle. That's all that matters.

The Republicans created 93% of the National Debt, allowed Wall Street to run a $516 trillion dollar derivative Ponzi scheme, got us into two useless wars, and now they want to wreck the economy again, force women to have unwanted children, kill Medicare, and kill Social Security.

The are evil.

Because paying taxes is good for America.

But modern day conservatism is the political codification of selfishness.

I'd ask you why we should care about $516 trillion in derivatives, but you've already shown your inability to do simple math.

No, paying taxes is not good for America. Furthermore, that doesn't explain how the government is entitled to take my money. All it says is that you approve.

It's quite simplle really. Article I, section 8; the very first sentence. As for income tax, read the Constitution, the section on amending it and then read the XVI amendment.
You see, the people elected the members of the House, and the State Legislators elected the Senators and then the States ratified the amendment.

It's not an entitlement, it's the law.
