Doesn't seem like we're trying to win it, so the only other conclusion is it's benefitting business interests. A job program. Doing it half-ass ensures we never win, and if anything only multiply the problem ensuring we'll always need military people, defense contractors, and rich beneficiaries to donate to pro-war politicians. Whereas if we ever won and there was no more significant middle east terror it'd be a massive economic hit.
For that matter, is the whole war industry a jobs program? If we ever actually achieved a year of peace wouldn't that mean we wouldn't need so much monies going to defense and such? Isn't that rather a bad idea from the point of view of the people in charge? If you can't claim IS is a threat to the US, who will you scare you people with to keep them in line? If the people you rule don't fear someone other than you, you're in big trouble.
