ISRAEL is considering creating a buffer zone reaching up to 10 miles inside Syria to protect itself from fundamentalist rebels on the other side of the border.

The proposal, which has been drawn up by the military and presented to Binyamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, is intended to secure the 47-mile border against a growing Islamist threat if President Bashar al-Assad’s embattled regime loses control of the area.

The buffer would be modelled on the Lebanese security zone, in which the Israeli defence forces patrolled jointly with the South Lebanon army, a militia, up to 16 miles inside Lebanon from 1985 to 2000.

I have a basic education parts of southern syria were---at one time---considered part
of PALESTINE aka judea/israel Syria was---at one time peopled by PHONECIANS and
GREEKS Christianity spread quickly to syria and later on the dogs of arabia invaded

If you want to avoid the chance of loosing land you claim to be yours, then perhaps you shouldn't be attacking your neighbor. Pretty easy to understand but seems to be hard for Muslims. They reserve the right to invade and destroy all lands at will, but nobody has the right to attack back or defend themselves. Now that Syria has become an even bigger shithole and it's leader has turned into a genocidal maniac against his own people, Israel has to do whatever it can to protect itself from this conflict and civil war from spilling over into Israel. As it did with Turkey and they retaliated by bombing Syrian targets.

If Assad falls, terrorists and Hezbollah will take over the border area and the danger is they will use it for terrorists attacks against Israel, including the firing of missiles!

If you Muslims could manage your own affairs without constant warfare and bickering between yourselves, then Israel would not have to take any security measures against you ...bunch of no-hoper, loser, terrorists!

The same way it spilled into Jordan and Turkey. Many things can go wrong when the fighting occurs close to the border. Each side can accidentally hit inside Israel, and during the mayhem it would be easier for terrorists to penetrate inside Israel. Did the Mexican drug cartel wars spill over into the US at times?

Each side can accidentally hit inside Israel, and during the mayhem it would be easier for terrorists to penetrate inside Israel. Did the Mexican drug cartel wars spill over into the US at times?

That's not similar or even comparable at all. Completely different scenarios and context.
