IRS Inspector General, Darrell Issa Communicated Multiple Times In 2012

05/21/2013

WASHINGTON -- For all the outcry over who in the White House knew about an inspector general report detailing instances of the Internal Revenue Service targeting conservative groups, it turns out someone else was getting regular updates on the issue over the past year: Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.).

J. Russell George, a Treasury Department inspector general, testified Tuesday to the Senate Finance Committee that his department was in touch with Issa's office several times in 2012 and this year regarding its IRS investigation.

And they did not give him the answers to questions he had at that time. Listen to the hearings and you would know that.

So?

The fact is numbnuts Republican lawmakers had been demanding to know whether the IRS was targeting conservative groups since 2012. The IRS was at best being far from forth coming, or at worst, being deliberately dishonest with Congress.

Issa was informed about the IRS audit in 2012 but was never given any specifics about the audit even after he asked.

Fish in a barrel this morning. :eusa_angel:

And they did not give him the answers to questions he had at that time. Listen to the hearings and you would know that.
That's because he kept his questions a secret during the 2012 hearings. He kept the IRS abuses secret from Obama. He kept the IRS abuses secret from the Democratic Party. He kept the IRS abuses secret from the American people. The only people he didn't keep the IRS abuses secret from was the GOP.

"I knew what was approximately in it when we made the allegations about a year ago. This is one of those things where it's been, in a sense, an open secret, but you don't accuse the IRS until you've had a nonpartisan, deep look. That's what the IG has done."
- Darrell Issa

Issa and the GOP knew it was going on long before he reported it to the IG. The head of the IRS during the time was a Bush appointee, meaning an Establishment Republican. The Establishment Republicans hate the Teabag Brotherhood and did not want them forcing their loser candidates on the Establishment Republicans, especially during the primaries. So the Establishment Republicans saw this as a twofer, they could disrupt the financing of Teabag Brotherhood campaigns and then blame everything on Obama. So Issa and the GOP kept everything a secret until after the primaries.

Big secret huh?

The staffs of Representative Darrell Issa of California, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and Representative Jim Jordan, Republican of Ohio, contacted the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration in March 2012 to explore an investigation of allegations of abuse by I.R.S. Officials reviewing applications for tax exemption by conservative groups. That spring, the inspector general's staff developed an audit plan. With that plan complete, the lawmakers formally requested an audit on June 28, 2012. It asked that the audit cover the I.R.S. oversight of organizations applying for tax-exempt status. The inspector general, J. Russell George, formally notified the lawmakers on July 11, 2012, that he had begun his audit. Mr. George also let the Treasury general counsel know of his audit in June 2012 and Deputy Treasury Secretary Neal S. Wolin shortly after.

Issa and the GOP Establishment kept it a secret until after the GOP state primaries were over to keep the hated Teabag Brotherhood from "primarying" the GOP Establishment candidates. Once that was accomplished, they then put phase two in place, trying to blame it on Obama, but the IG took too long to finish his audit.

Why would he do that when letting the public know the IRS is targeting conservatives would have helped energized the Republican base?

The "GOP establishment candidates" would not have been hurt by this since A) they're the ones who requested the audit and B) had nothing to do with the IRS targeting of conservatives in the first place.

Your argument fails on so many levels.

Issa had complaints about the IRS. That's why he asked for the official investigation.

:eusa_angel:

Epic fail. Too funny.

Exactly.

What a weapon this would have been against Obama's administration if Issa had wanted to play dirty!

Conservatives would have marched on Washington, DC.

Issa instead did the honorable thing and requested an investigation by the Inspector General.

True and he didn't want to publicize it until he had some facts. Which is something Democrats would never do.

What is sadly funny is the left wing media still trying to cover for the Administration by putting out these lamo headlines of "Issa knew about the Investigation" like it was a bad thing for him to know.

What's really truly sad is to watch liberal posters run with the stupid headline.
