Jeb Bush Says We Should Phase Out Medicare

What I don't get is how Bush plans to couch this. Seems he is ahead of himself.

Its "bad advice" from Bush's handlers to be iconoclastic just because nitwits like Trump manage to draw large, cheering crowds.

Generally, I see that as an issue with all candidates.

They say what they feel will work.

Seems that we just can't afford to be honest in todays world.

Okay....so what is the Democrat Plan?

It passed in 2010. Meanwhile, as the Trustees note, "For 2010 through 2014, HI and Part B of SMI experienced the lowest 5-year per beneficiary growth rates in the program’s history." And the long-term financial picture for Medicare has brightened significantly.

Ten years ago, Medicare was a runaway freight train. Spending was projected to increase indefinitely, rising to 13 percent of GDP by 2080. This year, spending is projected to slow down around 2040, and reaches only 6 percent of GDP by 2090.

Six percent! That's half what we thought a mere decade ago. If that isn't spectacular, I don't know what is.

It is interesting.

Jeb Bush puts this out now.....on one hand he gets more cons to look at him. On the other...he pisses off the far left.

Independents might actually consider reasonable proposals.

Can Jeb get the left...no.

Could he potentially get more cons....yes.

Could he potentially get independents......yes.

Optics and thought out damage control are the name of the game here.

This kind of idea pushes moderates away. The only people who think this is a good idea are idiots.

If you read up on politics and major policy shifts....what was a bad idea can become a good idea under certain circumstances.

There is no way to couch this or spin this into a good idea. His best bet is that people forget he said it.

...and because of those darn videos, in today's political arena [as Shakespeare once wrote]. "the evil that men do lives after them...."

Why do liberals reflexively, automatically oppose new ideas when it comes to reforming the welfare state? What on earth is wrong with the idea of giving seniors vouchers for medical care? This would save BILLIONS of dollars in overhead and bureaucracy and would speed up the payment for services as well.

You guys do realize that we didn't even have Medicare until 1965, right? Gee, how did we survive before then? Were seniors living in the streets? Was there a mass of needless senior deaths? No and no.

Right now Medicare is facing at least $30 TRILLION in unfunded obligations, obligations that we don't know how we're going to fund. SOMETHING is going to have to be done to substantially reform the system so that it doesn't bankrupt us.

How would it do either of those things?

The above shows the results when your brain becomes mush from too much Fox news......Play out the scenarios of seniors receiving "vouchers":

1. An 85 years old woman in a nursing home with advanced dementia and a variety of other physical ailments with the nursing home claiming that she has exhausted the voucher allotment after 7 months of care....

2. A 70 years old male who is allowed to use some of his voucher's allocation to gamble in the stock market and someone convinces him to gamble on some really crappy investments.....and he gets severely sick and 2/3 of the voucher's money has been lost........

They pat thenselves on the back and wonder how compassionate they are that they can coerce other people to pay money into a failed system.
They dont give a shit about seniors or anyone else. It is all about how they feel about themselves.

1, Under Obamacare that woman would be offered the choice of euthanasia or an aspirin. Problem sovled.
2. How do you use a voucher designed for a specific product to gamble?> You must be snorting crack again.

No lies, Norbert. That is exactly what is going on. Why else would they support social programs and policies that have delivered total failure for 50 years?
