Jon Stewart Slams GOP Hypocrisy Over VA Scandal

The GOP has been blasting the Obama administration for failing to give veterans timely care in the VA hospital scandal. But as Jon Stewart pointed out on Thursday's "Daily Show," the Republicans haven't been helping, either.

Stewart played video clips of Republicans in the Senate undermining efforts to increase funding for veterans' benefits, then took a trip down "Terrible Memory Lane" to show how U.S. veterans have gotten the shaft for much of the nation's history no matter who's in power.

"On this Memorial Day weekend eve, we can finally admit that America has had for over 200 years a great bipartisan tradition of honoring those who have fought for our freedom by fucking them over once they give their guns back," Stewart said.

In the clip above, watch Stewart rip into the GOP for calling out the president while refusing to boost funding for veterans. Even Bill O'Reilly gets in on the act.

Video at the link.

As always, Stewart nails it. And even the cons will love the Bill O'Reilly clip.

Who can forget the veterans bonus army and the Republican response, shooting a few vets and a baby dying from tear gas. Imagine the slaughter if the vets had been armed. At the time MacArthur called the vets communists and was ready to do battle.
After FDR was elected the bonus army again asked the money be paid early, and this time FDR sent Eleanor down to talk with the vets. She and the vets had coffee together and chatted and later the vets went home.

Right.

Boooooooooooooooooooooooosh Fault

We never heard that excuse from you fuckers before

They hate that a comedian gets it and their beloved FOX doesn't.

Now see? If you had watched the video you would know that's not what Stewart said.

Our government called Veterans "right-wing extremists"

What the report said was extremists groups were recruiting veterans, not the other way around. However, looks like they were right, huh? I wonder how many more are members of white separatist groups, militias, KKK, and other known hate groups?

Wade Michael Page

Timothy McVeigh

Frazier Glenn Miller

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/16/opinion/veterans-and-white-supremacy.html?_r=0

The report raised intense blowback from the American Legion, Fox News and conservative members of Congress. They demanded an apology and denounced the idea that any veteran could commit an act of domestic terrorism. The department shelved the report, removing it from its website. The threat, however, proved real.

Mr. Miller obviously represents an extreme, both in his politics and in his violence. A vast majority of veterans are neither violent nor mentally ill. When they turn violent, they often harm themselves, by committing suicide. But it would be irresponsible to overlook the high rates of combat trauma among the 2.4 million Americans who have served in our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the full impact of which has not yet materialized. Veterans of those conflicts represent just 10 percent of those getting mental health services through the Department of Veterans Affairs, where the overwhelming majority of those in treatment are still Vietnam veterans.

During Mr. Miller’s long membership in the white power movement, its leaders have robbed armored cars, engaged in counterfeiting and the large-scale theft of military weapons, and carried out or planned killings. The bombing by Timothy J. McVeigh, an Army veteran, of the federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995, which killed 168 people, was only the most dramatic of these crimes. When we interpret shootings like the one on Sunday as acts of mad, lone-wolf gunmen, we fail to see white power as an organized — and deadly — social movement.

Try not to make blanket statements. It makes you look like a fool.

You almost gotta laugh about the low information left who rely on stand up comedian Jon Stewart (aka Jonathan Liebowitz) for political analysis.
