After a natural disaster it is easy for emotions to erase the truth of a situation.

Yes, Hurricane Harvey, like Hurricanes Katrina, Sandy, Andrew, etc. were devastating. That is why it must be asked, after many decades of such disasters, why don’t people learn from their many mistakes that continue to allow these causes of death and destruction?

It is understandable the wreckage in Texas would be at record levels. That state’s conservatives have been very successful stopping regulations that would mitigate or eliminate the property damage and loss of life from both natural and man-made disasters.

Texas permits residential areas to be built directly in the path of inevitable disasters. The town of West Texas and the explosion of the West Fertilizer Company is an example.

“The explosion left a crater 93 feet wide and 10 feet deep. Ten of the 15 people killed were volunteer firefighters and other emergency workers; more than 260 others were injured. Of the town’s 700 homes, about 350 were affected, including 193 that were destroyed or severely damaged. Three schools, a nursing home and a 50-unit apartment complex were destroyed or heavily damaged.”

The investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms that followed, ruled the explosion an intentional act, which makes buffer zones around sites that can be used as “weapons of terror” even more imperative. But, the chances of these, or any safety regulations will be shot down by Texas’ conservatives.

Which is why conservatives nationwide will cheer a recent executive order by the Big Orange Idiot. Ten days before Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas, the Big Orange idiot “signed an executive order revoking a set of regulations that would have made federally funded infrastructure less vulnerable to flooding.”

“In the coming days, Congress will be called upon to send billions of federal dollars to help with the state's recovery and rebuilding efforts. But because of Trump's rollback of President Barack Obama's Federal Flood Risk Management Standard, experts across the political spectrum say much of the federal money sent to Texas is likely to be wasted on construction that will insufficiently protect against the next storm. ‘We will rebuild things that should not be rebuilt and ... in ways that are less safe and secure than they should be.' "

Conservatives are infamous for being “penny wise and pound foolish” and calling it fiscal responsibility. (http://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/be-penny-wise-and-pound-foolish) So, it only follows that they deserve the consequences of being shortsighted. And they will be, where ever the Big Orange Idiot’s rollback of Obama’s infrastructure regulations result in failure of flood control etc.

Conservatives will continue to receive their just deserts. Both natural and man-made.(http://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/get-your-just-deserts) Unfortunately, the stupid decisions by conservatives victimize soooo many innocent bystanders.

The cause of Harvey was global warming. China and India fucked up my beloved state!!!

I want war with India and China.

If you knew what zoning was, it would be a miracle. I'd love to see liberals like these half wits here run the country. I'd say in 20 years we would be nothing.

I have lived in Houston. The no zoning thing is a false flag. In Texas, we have deed restrictions that work the same way. None of that has anything to do with flooding. What People forget and often overlook is that Houston's nickname is "The Bayou City." It's a fucking swamp. All of SE Texas is swampland. Why is anyone surprised when it floods?

Basements are impossible. The water table is like....2 feet.

We had 100 yr rains here in Mass like 7 years ago . I had two sump pumps running 24/7 in my basement . I get water anyway , people who NEVER had water had their shit flooded .

Ran out of good sites. Put you in the drainage path. Population growth.

Last week General Lee, now Harvey.

Texas.......Lee Harvey. Derp state with muller setting something up.......filthy leftist maggots. All those good people in Houston now with nowhere to live!

In spite of what the alt right has been posting, almost everyone would agree with this. Thing is, with the Rs tearing up all regulations that protect us, we will be seeing more of this, especially in a state like Texass.

Remember when RWs had a fit because Christie actually did his job? Oh yeah, and shook hands with that Black Kenyan Muslim Commie yadda yadda.

The politics of this really do matter and will matter even more in future events.

Flo for FLOTUS

Impeach Melania for wearing high heels in a disaster area!!! Replace her with a Progressive! Yay!

Now now, she did change into brand new white jogging shoes that matched perfectly her brand new white shirt and brand new white hat with her pony tail hanging out .

What was wrong was that she sat in on official meeting aka worthless photo op and jackass pino trump actually bragged about the size of his crowd.

University Fires Professor Who Blamed Harvey On GOP Vote

The University of Tampa has fired visiting Sociology professor Kenneth L.‭ ‬Storey after he tweeted that Hurricane Harvey's destruction is‭ "‬instant karma‭" ‬because Texans vote consistently to keep a Republican controlled state government‭

It is doubtful that‭ “‬karma‭” ‬had much to do with Harvey’s formation and the damage caused.‭ ‬However,‭ ‬Texas Republicans long ago chose to put greed and profits over the safety of its citizens.

‬Permitting inadequate infrastructure to be built and remain without needed improvements was asking for trouble.‭ ‬And Harvey gave the people of Texas exactly what they asked for.

‬Naturally,‭ ‬conservatives will deny any facts that indicate regulations are necessary.‭ ‬So,‭ ‬they will need to keep practicing their swimming techniques.‭ ‬This,‭ ‬however,‭ ‬will not help Professor Kenneth L.‭ ‬Storey.
