Just paroled from jail..gets gun, murders police officer...

so...this guy walks out of jail and is on parole...there is no law on the books that allows a parolee to buy, own or carry a gun...he can't pass a back ground check....he can't register his gun...and yet he gets one and uses it to murder a police officer...

New York State has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the United States. Yet despite those laws, an August parolee, Thomas Johnson III, walked out of prison, got a gun, and, yesterday, used it to murder a police officer.

As the Wright Rossi report told us 32 years ago, it generally takes a convict ten minutes to acquire a gun. Even before instant background checks, stolen guns were the only ones cheap enough that criminals could pick them up from a street corner drug and gun dealer, and throw them away if continued possession would be a risk.

Today, after more than fifteen years, the situation has not changed much:
