In 2017 she won 21.30% to Macron's 24.01% in the first round.

In the second round Macron won 66.1% and LePen 33.90%

LePen increased her vote by 12.6%

In 2002 LePen (the father) won 16.86% of the vote and Chirac 19.88% in the first round

In the second round Chirac won 82.21% to LePen's 17.79%.

LePen increased his vote by less than 1%.

The reality is that in such a first round, LePen can win enough to finish second. But in a straight race she just doesn't have the votes.

Yes, this is the highest number of votes the Front National has ever got in a Presidential election first round. But even still, she's need to get 50.1% of the vote, and she'll probably get 35%.
