depending upon the gun. If longarms, you need pipe twice as long as for pistols. thick walled steel pipe, from scrap yd. 8" in diameter (or so) 3 ft long for longarms. fill a 5 gallon bucket about 2/3rds full of gravel. put rags atop the gravel. set the bottom end of the pipe into the bucket. stretch truck tire innertube over the top end of the pipe, securing it with a twist of wire around the sides, like a drumhead, ok? cut a slit into the center of the rubber. Tip over the pipe and bucket to about 45 degrees, for handiness, that's all. Then insert gun barrel into the slit, and fire down into the gravel. It will stop 3006, 12 ga, etc, and sound like an elephant farting in a gym. WOOMPH.
