Let’s teach children about slavery properly by connecting it to our present

This seems a bit of a muddled piece but I think she gets there in the end.
The destruction of the Colston statue enraged conservatives but it was a powerful moment in the UK.

In my day we were not taught about slavery. It was seen as an American thing. There was no collective folk memory in the UK because all of the plantations were over in the Caribean. Out of sight out of mind.

But now we see the extent of how slavery shaped the UK. It infected everyone of our institutions and is more relevant today than it ever was..

One of the biggest sugar plantations was in Barbados, the Drax plantation. Richard Drax sits in our parliament today. Rich as croesus on the backs of his black property.

Its not just the ghastly Drax. We see how our universities, schools, stately homes, the church, the monarchy were all enriched by slavery.

When the UK abolished slavery they paid billions in reparations to the slave owners for the loss of their property. The last payment was only paid just recently. .That decision did so much to entrench the inequality that we see today.

So slavery is not a parr of history. It still shapes the society we live in. Maybe its time it was taught properly..

Start by teaching that the southern slave owners were Democrats. Then teach them that the white northerners died to end slavery. Then teach that today's welfare system keeps the inner city blacks dependent upon their Democrat slave-massas.

We no longer have slavery.
But the effects linger on. We have just endured a coronation of a monarch who sits on a pile of money from the slave trade..
Would all of those kiddies waving union flags be as enthusiatic if they were taught about that ?

The mentality of the slaver is very alive today, especially in the UK and Canada.

You just need look at how your laws treat unborn human beings as the inhuman property of their mothers to be killed on their master’s whim, and the prejudicial way in which you deny them personhood to enable this exploitative view.

Abortion is an important aspect of womens health. Banning abortion is a form of slavery.

Perhaps you could address the OP ?

I would love to see schools start teaching about the history of virtue signaling, especially the psychological mechanisms underpinning the need to indulge in it.

A comprehensive course could start with the Pharisees and work through history from there.

I hate to point this out ... Mr. OP ... but if we teach our children The Truth about slavery ... they'll just rebel ... and demand pay for their chores ...

It’s always funny how the Brits act like they had nothing to do with slavery. Yet it was British colonies that had it.

After the Revolutionary War we had it for a short while until the Civil War when we had to create the GOP, the Republican Party, in order to defeat the defenders of slavery: Democrats.

Democrats have always been the party of slavery and death:
Fully supported and fought for slavery: check
Fully support lynch mobs: check
Fully supported Jim Crow laws: check
Fully support abortion on demand: check
Fully support human trafficking with open borders: check

Today they still support all of that. They like using cheap Chinese slave labor, and cheap brown labor from illegals. They like using mobs of street thugs to attack random white people.
They now are starting to even support segregation to stay away from whites.

We no longer have slavery.
Wrong

There is now more slavery today than at any time in human history.

But politicians and their controlled media spend all their time debating slavery hundreds of years ago instead

Thanks for playing.

Moreover, thanks for not caring about the suffering going on today and instead focusing on the suffering of hundreds of years ago instead.

You sir are the perfect tool,.

You make a narrow domestic point. You should look beyond that to consider the outcomes of slavery.
